Upper School Computer Science Teacher
Position DescriptionColumbus Academy seeks candidates for an opening as a full-time Upper School Computer Science Teacher.The individual selected for this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:Teach five sections, which meet regularly but not necessarily dailyWork collaboratively with other computer science, math and science facultyAssume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all upper school faculty membersCollaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum design and developmentModel a commitment to reflective practice, self-improvement and lifelong learningProvide periodic updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in-person conferencesIncorporate technological resources effectively using computers and iPads in classroom activities and organizing courses within the school’s online learning management siteHold students accountable for the school’s standards of behaviorWork with other members in the school community to support each student’s emotional wellbeingQualificationsPreferred candidates will possess the following qualifications:Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or closely related field (software industry experience a plus), science or mathematicsAt least three years of experience as a lead teacher in high school or college teaching computer scienceAbility to teach introductory programming courses, AP Computer Science and other advanced CS topicsExpertise in a variety of computer languages such as: Python, Java, JavaScript, RAbility to teach additional science courses or math courses would be considered an assetProfessional orientation towards collaboration and innovationA reflective practitioner, committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learningEngages in ongoing professional development by attending seminars, workshops and/or graduate-level studies in the field of educationEnthusiasm for teaching computer scienceProactively champion the computer science program to broaden participation, ensuring that recruitment efforts reach a diverse student body and break down barriers to entry.Physical ConditionsCandidates Must Be Able To Manage The Following ConditionsClassroom environmentMobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible)Repetitive motion (use of a keyboard)Periodic need to move light furniture, hang visuals in classroom, carry objects (no more than 40 pounds), etc.Columbus Academy believes strongly in the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
