Position SummaryThe Laboratory Assistant processes outpatient test requests.As a Laboratory Assistant, You WillPerform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing. With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing. May perform chain-of-custody drug collections and perform various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Maintain required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies. Perform duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements. Support the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.Minimum RequirementsHigh School, Equivalent, or higher Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommendedPreferred6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency is preferred:National Healthcare Association (NHA) --Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb), American Society of Clinical Pathologists-- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)], International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS), National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE), National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or another national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership.Other Information32 hours per weekMonday - Friday (11 am - 7:30 pm)Weekend rotation for every 3rd weekend and rotational holidaysRequired to work other shifts per operational demands needsGreat BenefitsCareer Level Availabilities / Growth OpportunitiesECU HealthAbout ECU Health Medical CenterECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
