Salary: $20.40 Hourly Location : Facilities Management, Marietta, GA Job Type: Part-Time Job Number: 04944 Department: Facilities Management Opening Date: 05/21/2026 Closing Date: 6/4/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Grade Code: 105P Position Information The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled trades work in the maintenance of County-owned buildings and facilities. Distinguishing Characteristics Work at this level involves carpentry, painting, plumbing, and general mechanical repair work. Essential Functions Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and/or renovation of county buildings and facilities: reads blueprints or other design drawings to determine work to be performed; performs rough and finish carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing work; and performs masonry and concrete work such as setting forms, mixing and pouring concrete, and laying modular block walls. Assists in ensuring that operation, construction, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems are in compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards: conducts maintenance inspections of buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities to identify potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs; and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations. Performs building maintenance, renovations and repair tasks: removes or installs flooring and ceiling tiles ; removes or installs fixtures and appliances; paints interior and exterior surfaces; removes or installs carpet; and performs general concrete work, plaster applications and installation/replacement of sheetrock. Performs basic repair and maintenance of life safety systems, to include fire alarms and sprinklers, security systems such as burglar alarms and door access controls, generators, UPS power systems and other related equipment Performs various electrical tasks: troubleshoots electrical problems; installs and replaces electrical wiring, receptacles and switches; establishes electrical connections; repairs electrical components; trips or replaces breaker; and replaces light bulbs and ballasts. Performs various plumbing tasks: troubleshoots plumbing problems: installs, repairs and replaces pump-mechanical equipment and plumbing systems and fixtures; clears and unblocks water lines and drains; repairs steam lines, toilets, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, etc.; solders pipes; and repairs plumbing leaks. Performs general maintenance and repairs to heating and air-conditioning systems: installs or repairs duct systems; replaces filters; and assists with the troubleshooting of heating and air-conditioning system problems. May supervise inmates, other maintenance staff, or contractors in performing maintenance or repair duties. May require the ability to communicate, report and complete work orders using technology such as a Smartphone or tablet and associated applications. Responsible for purchasing construction and maintenance related items; accountable for delivery of related financial paperwork to administrative staff. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by some vocational or technical training in one or more building trades; supplemented by one year of experience in building construction, maintenance and repair. Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Physical Abilities Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, noise extremes, and electric currents.
