WY - Chief Radiaion Therapist

POSITION SUMMARYThe Chief Radiation Therapist is a leader in radiation oncology delivering superior technical expertise, management and operational support, reporting directly to the Cancer Center Director. This leader supports all disciplines within Radiation Oncology including: patients, dosimetry, physics, physicians, therapists, nurses and technicians. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Administers prescribed course of radiation therapy. Calculates procedure details such as length and intensity of exposure to radiation, size and strength of dosage, setting of recording equipment, etc. Evaluates and assesses the daily physiological and psychological responsiveness of the patients and ensures quality care for patients undergoing radiation therapy. Participates in patients and community education regarding radiation therapy. Assists in the billing and coding process for radiation therapy. Orients new employees, conducts evaluations and competencies. leads monthly meetings, assigns duties as applicable, and has high attention to detail. Supervision of radiation therapists, quality checks, and auditing charts Assists with patient set-ups and SIMS, provides essential training when needed, encourages professional development, creates and keeps schedules as well as accurate timecards, assigns duties within the workflow to create an efficient and safe environment for the team. Leadership and team building are a must as well as business management and confidence in problem solving. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION Associate's degree in Radiation Therapy required. Associate's degree in Radiation Technology required. EXPERIENCE Two to three (2-3) years of experience as a Radiation Therapist strongly preferred. Two to three (2-3) years of experience as a supervisor preferred.CREDENTIALS Must have current, valid Wyoming License as a Radiation Technologist and must be in good standing with the Board. Must have current, valid ARRT registration and must be in good standing with the ARRT. Must have current, valid BLS certification or must obtain within 60 days of hire and must maintain credential throughout employment with IMH.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology, oncologic pathology, radiation biology, radiation oncology techniques, treatment planning procedures, and dosimetry. Ability to display competence, compassion, and concern in meeting the special needs of the oncology patient. Excellent customer service skills, including but not limited to: a friendly personality, tact, patience, empathy and a helpful, professional attitude both in person and on the telephone. Ability to effectively communicate with staff, managers and the general public verbally and in writing. Demonstrate effective listening skills. Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to establish priorities effectively. Possess exceptional problem solving skills. Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision. Ability to learn new computer software programs. Ability to recognize and protect confidential information. Demonstrate ethical and legal accountability for the position. Possess knowledge of the nature and treatments of conditions requiring surgical intervention and of reactions and side effects of related therapy methods. Ability to educate patients and families as to the nature of surgical procedures and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment. Excellent patient assessment and referral skills. Ability to work with other department and attends hospital leadership meetings.
