Compliance Specialist (Expert Level)đ Hybrid â Sacramento, CAđ˘ Industry: Energy / Utilities (Electric Transmission & Distribution)đź Job Function: Regulatory Compliance | Asset Management | Risk & Controls | System Protectionđ Level: Senior Individual Contributorâď¸ Travel: 25â50%About the RoleThis role supports electric system protection and substation compliance within a large utility environment, ensuring adherence to federal and industry reliability standards.You will drive compliance across asset data, protection systems, testing records, and regulatory frameworks, ensuring accurate reporting, risk control, and audit readiness across complex electric operations.What Youâll DoCollect, validate, and analyse compliance evidence from multiple technical and asset systemsEnsure accuracy of asset inventory, test records, and protection system dataMaintain and update compliance tracking tools, including corrective action systemsConduct regulatory gap assessments and ensure timely closure of findingsSupport adherence to standards such as NERC CIP, NERC O&P, FERC, CAISOIdentify control gaps and recommend process improvementsReview upcoming regulatory changes and assess operational impactCollaborate with engineering, testing, and system protection teamsSupport audits, vulnerability reviews, and compliance reporting cyclesImprove compliance tools, workflows, and data quality processesWhat You BringBachelorâs degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, or equivalent experience8+ years in utility system protection, substation testing, or related electric operationsAt least 3+ years in compliance, audit, or regulatory-focused rolesStrong understanding of electric utility operations and protection systemsKey Skills & KnowledgeUtility compliance & regulatory frameworks (NERC CIP / O&P, FERC, CAISO)Substation & system protection environmentsAsset management & technical data validationRisk, controls, and audit supportRoot cause / gap analysisData analysis across multiple systemsCompliance reporting & documentationStakeholder engagement with engineering & operations teamsPreferred StrengthsExperience in electric substations, relay systems, or protection testingKnowledge of compliance frameworks and internal control designFamiliarity with tools, databases, and compliance tracking systemsCertifications such as PMP, Lean Six Sigma, CISSP, QEW, or NERC System Operator (advantageous)Strong ability to interpret technical standards into operational processesWhy This Role MattersYouâll play a key role in ensuring grid reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational integrity across critical electric infrastructure systems, directly impacting system safety and performance.
