General Manager of Operations Global Facility Solutions (GFS) | Columbia, Maryland (On-site)Lead Engineering and Energy Solutions Operations for a Growing Engineering and Sustainability Solutions Company Global Facility Solutions (GFS) is seeking a General Manager of Operations to serve as a key operational leader within our organization and act as a strategic partner to the President in managing day-to-day business operations.This role is ideal for an experienced mechanical/HVAC industry leader who understands engineering teams, building systems, and technical project environments—but who may come from operations, facilities management, project management, or leadership roles within mechanical or engineering-focused organizations.The General Manager of Engineering will oversee engineering operations, coordinate technical resources, support project execution, and ensure strong collaboration between engineering, field operations, and project management teams.This position acts as a senior strategic partner to the President and engineering team leaders, providing leadership in operational planning, technical team management, and overall business growth. Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Technical Team LeadershipProvide leadership and direction to the engineering and technical teamsCoordinate engineering resources to support project execution and field operationsMentor engineers and technical professionals to ensure strong collaboration and performanceManage engineering workloads, priorities, and staffing needsOperational LeadershipPartner closely with the President and division business leaders to support day-to-day business operationsHelp oversee operational planning, technical execution, and departmental coordinationAlign engineering efforts with company goals and project demandsIdentify opportunities to improve workflows, processes, and team efficiencyProject & Technical OversightSupport mechanical and HVAC project execution across engineering and field teamsEnsure engineering deliverables support project timelines and client expectationsAssist with troubleshooting technical challenges across projects and service operationsCollaborate with project managers, field leaders, and technical specialistsBusiness & Financial ManagementParticipate in operational planning, budgeting, and resource allocationSupport financial performance of projects and engineering activitiesHelp evaluate operational efficiency and identify opportunities for improvementClient & Business SupportParticipate in client meetings and technical discussions when appropriateSupport proposal development and project planning initiativesStrengthen relationships with internal teams, partners, and clients QualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree required15 to 20+ years of leadership experience within a mechanical, HVAC, facilities management, or technical services environmentStrong understanding of commercial building systems, including:Mechanical systemsHVAC systemsElectrical systemsExperience leading teams within organizations such as:Mechanical contractorsHVAC service companiesFacilities management companiesEngineering or technical services firmsCommercial building operations organizationsStrong leadership, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to manage technical teams while coordinating operations and projectsPreferredExperience supervising engineers, project managers, or technical teamsBackground in mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering operations, HVAC services, or facility engineering environmentsExperience supporting engineering teams in construction, service, or project-based organizationsExposure to operational planning, financial management, or business leadershipNote: A Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required for this role.
