Bulk Cement Dispatch Manager
The Bulk Cement Manager of Dispatch will oversee all aspects of the company's Bulk Cement transportation operations, with a primary focus on managing and leading the dispatch team. This role involves ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of goods while maintaining regulatory compliance and exceptional customer service. The manager will develop and implement operational policies, optimize fleet utilization, and mentor the dispatch staff to foster a high-performance culture.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Supervision: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Bulk Cement dispatchers, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. This includes involvement in hiring, training, and performance management processes.
Dispatch Operations Oversight: Oversee daily dispatch activities, including route planning, scheduling drivers, assigning loads, and tracking shipments using transportation management systems (TMS) and GPS technology.
Efficiency and Cost Management: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost reduction, and service levels. Manage departmental budgets and control operational expenses.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure all Bulk Cement operations and personnel adhere to local, state, and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including hours-of-service (HOS) rules and proper load securement procedures. Promote a strong safety culture through ongoing training and enforcement of company policies.
Problem Solving and Customer Service: Act as the primary point of escalation for complex logistical challenges, customer complaints, and emergencies, providing timely and effective solutions.
Communication and Coordination: Maintain effective communication channels with drivers, customers, sales teams, and warehouse staff to ensure seamless operations and high levels of customer satisfaction.
Documentation and Reporting: Ensure accurate record-keeping of all dispatch activities, including manifests, driver logs, and maintenance records, and generate regular performance reports for senior management.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation or logistics operations, preferably within a Bulk Cement environment.
Minimum of 1-3 years of supervisory or management experience, including direct reports.
Extensive knowledge of Bulk Cement transportation logistics, equipment, and industry-specific regulations (DOT, HOS, load securement).
Skills:
Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), routing software, GPS tracking, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and manage relationships with various stakeholders.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Working Conditions
This position primarily operates in an office environment but may require occasional presence in the yard/warehouse and availability to respond to after-hours emergencies or operational issues in a 24/7 environment. The role can be high-pressure and requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and rapidly changing conditions.
