Application Systems Developer

JOB PURPOSE or JOB SUMMARY:The Application Systems Developer is responsible for supporting user requests to design, develop, and maintain reports, dashboards, queries, and data extracts from the organization’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, as well as auxiliary manufacturing systems. This position also evaluates business processes, identifies opportunities for system and workflow improvements, and helps ensure that the ERP/CRM/manufacturing platforms are used effectively across the organization.The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between business users, leadership, IT resources, and ERP software providers. This individual will translate business requirements into accurate reporting solutions, system configurations, process improvements, and actionable recommendations.The role requires a combination of technical reporting expertise, business process knowledge, data analysis, project coordination, and strong communication skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: ERP/CRM Reporting and AnalyticsDesign, develop, test, deploy, and maintain ERP/CRM/manufacturing reports, dashboards, queries, and data extracts.Meet with users and department leaders to understand reporting requirements, business questions, calculations, filters, and desired outputs.Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and reporting solutions.Develop standardized reports and dashboards that provide consistent, timely, and actionable information.Validate report results against ERP transactions, CRM source records, and established business rules.Troubleshoot reporting discrepancies and identify issues involving data definitions, joins, filters, calculations, timing, or source-system configuration.Improve the performance and usability of existing reports.Maintain a report library, data dictionary, report inventory, and documentation of calculations and data sources.Develop self-service reporting capabilities and provide users with appropriate training and documentation.ERP/CRM Business Process OptimizationAnalyze existing workflows, system configurations, and user practices to identify inefficiencies, duplication, manual work, and control gaps.Work with business teams to document current-state and future-state processes.Recommend improvements that simplify processes, improve data quality, strengthen internal controls, and increase ERP adoption.Configure or coordinate changes to ERP workflows, fields, forms, dashboards, alerts, templates, security roles, and business rules.Evaluate enhancement requests based on business value, complexity, risk, cost, and alignment with organizational priorities.Identify underused ERP/CRM features that could replace manual processes or third-party workarounds.Support continuous improvement initiatives across finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, operations, service, and other business areas.Research ERP/CRM/manufacturing system capabilities, product updates, and reporting tools that may improve business performance.Requirements Gathering and Solution DesignConvert user requests into documented functional and technical requirements.Identify dependencies between ERP modules, integrations, workflows, and downstream reports.Coordinate with internal technical resources, consultants, and software vendors when custom development or integration work is required.Data Quality, Governance, and ControlsAssist with role-based access, report permissions, and appropriate handling of confidential information.Support audit requests by providing system reports, data extracts, documentation, and evidence of system controls.Follow established change-management, documentation, data-security, and approval procedures.Testing and Change ManagementDevelop and execute test plans for ERP/CRM/manufacturing system upgrades, configurations, reports, workflows, integrations, and enhancements.Coordinate user acceptance testing with affected departments.Validate that system changes meet documented requirements before deployment.Maintain change logs and system configuration documentation.*An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.COMPETENCIES:Ability to understand how data moves across ERP modules and business processes.Ability to interpret business requests and determine the underlying reporting or process need.Ability to develop reports that are accurate, understandable, efficient, and maintainable.Understanding of database tables, views, relationships, and data types.Strong facilitation, documentation, and presentation skills.Strong customer-service orientation and commitment to user success.Ability to handle sensitive financial, employee, customer, and operational information appropriately.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in information systems, business analytics, accounting, finance, operations, supply chain, computer science, or a related field.Three or more years of experience working with an ERP system in a reporting, systems analyst, business analyst, or process-improvement capacity.Demonstrated experience developing ERP reports, dashboards, queries, or data extracts.Working knowledge of relational databases, data structures, and reporting concepts.Experience analyzing business processes and recommending improvements.Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, PivotTables, and data analysis.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Ability to validate data and identify the root cause of reporting discrepancies.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities, requests, and projects.High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.Ability to work effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365.Experience with ERP-native reporting tools or third-party reporting applications.Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases.Experience with Microsoft Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, or similar analytics and automation tools.Experience supporting ERP upgrades, implementations, integrations, or data conversions.Knowledge of APIs, data warehouses, ETL processes, or system integrations.Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, engineering, or project-based environment.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.Ability to participate in meetings with users across multiple departments and locations.Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required during upgrades, system maintenance, month-end processing, or major implementations.Limited travel may be required for training, vendor meetings, or support at other company locations.WORKING ENVIRONMENT:The noise level in the work environment is from moderate to loud. Remote work is partially available for this position.
