Company DescriptionThe TExUS (Texas Extreme Weather and Urban Sustainability) Lab texuslab.org is a research group at The University of Texas at Austin dedicated to understanding the complex relationship between extreme weather events and urban environments. Our research integrates satellite observations, large-scale meteorological datasets, and urban-scale simulations to study how cities experience and respond to environmental stressors. We analyze extreme events such as floods, heatwaves, and severe storms, and develop data-driven frameworks to map urban climate patterns, assess vulnerability, and inform adaptation strategies. Under the UT City Colab, a partnership between UT Austin and City of Austin, our mission is making complex scientific insights accessible and actionable whether for researchers, city planners, energy providers, or the general public. The lab works closely with external partners including city agencies, organizations, and other research institutions. These collaborations drive projects that use data and modeling to improve infrastructure planning, support climate resilience efforts, and build public-facing decision-support tools. Our team combines expertise in physical modeling, remote sensing, machine learning, and software development to tackle problems that require both scientific rigor and engineering depth.Joining the TExUS Lab means contributing to work that directly shapes how cities prepare for and respond to changing conditions. Interns and student researchers are embedded in active projects, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and have the opportunity to see their work deployed in real-world settings.
