Isuzu Technical Center of America is seeking an Advanced Engineering Intern to join its operations in Plymouth, MI, for Summer 2026. The selected candidate will be placed with a preferred agency for employment.JOB SUMMARYIsuzu Technical Center of America (ITCA) is seeking a highly motivated AI & Autonomous Intern to support ITCA advanced engineering team in the development and integration of an autonomous logistics hub for Level 4 autonomous driving commercial vehicle operations. In this role, the intern will contribute to algorithm development, system integration and construction of simulation environments that enable multi-agent scheduling and planning. The intern will work closely with Isuzu internal engineering teams and external collaborators to design, implement, and evaluate core components of the autonomous hub system. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in cutting-edge autonomous technology, large-scale simulation, and autonomous vehicle systems within a collaborative and fast-paced engineering environment.PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES40% 1. Designs and implements core algorithms for scheduling, task assignment and multi-agent trajectory planning. Develops AI-enabled optimization and decision-making modules that coordinate multiple autonomous vehicles within the logistics hub. Conducts performance analysis using simulation data and identify opportunities for algorithm improvement.30% 2. Develops and maintains a digital-twin simulation environment of the autonomous logistics hub. Creates and configures assets, environments, and behavioral scenarios that accurately represent real-world hub operations. Supports simulation-based validation by creating test cases that evaluate multi-agent operations.20% 3. Supports system integration with ROS2 middleware. Verifies compatibility across interfaces, topics, and data structures to ensure seamless communication between software components. Participates in integration testing within the simulation environment to confirm functional behavior under dynamic scenarios. Assists in debugging and resolving integration issues across the stack.10% 4. Produces system-level documentation including architecture diagrams and data-flow diagrams. Prepares technical documentation to support knowledge sharing across the team.5. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPSReports to: Manager, Autonomous DrivingEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAININGPursuing a Master's degree in Robotics Engineering with a focus on robotics or autonomous drivingCandidates must have a GPA of 3.6 or higher on a 4.0 scalePrior industry experience in robotics or autonomous driving is preferredKNOWLEDGEBasics of robotics, including localization, planning, perception, and controlKnowledge of autonomous vehicle system architectures, particularly modules related to planning and decision-makingExposure to middleware frameworks like ROS (Robot Operating System)Familiarity with simulation platforms, preferably NVIDIA Isaac Sim or similar robotics simulation toolsKnowledge of optimization and AI-based path planning or decision-making algorithmsSKILLS & ABILITIESProficiency in programming languages: C++, Python, and MATLAB/Simulink/ StateflowProficiency in robotics-related software: ROS, ROS2, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, PyTorch, OpenCVProficiency in project & issue tracking tool: JIRA, ConfluenceProficiency in version control management tool: GitHubValid driver license with good recordPHYSICAL STANDARDSThe employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer.
