Job purpose The Safety Technician inspects work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations. This position will work to create and enforce a culture of safety within K-Five Construction. Responsibilities also include documenting safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures, and maintaining safety equipment supply and availability. Duties and responsibilities Ensure Company remains in compliance with governmental regulations Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices Implement safety programs and procedures Assist employees with all aspects of safety Monitor effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs Conduct safety meetings as needed Conduct safety training as needed Conduct job site inspections and observations Prepare written reports on job site inspections Complete incident/accident investigation and reporting Collaborate with Superintendents to monitor compliance and safety concerns Intervene in unsafe activities or operations Assist HR with new hire orientation Assist in companywide JHA Compliance Assist in companywide Toolbox Talks Compliance First responder for accidents involving injuries Accompany injured workers to clinics/hospitals Maintain knowledge of OSHA regulations Participate in OSHA/EPA inspections Other duties as needed Qualifications 3-5 years of practical experience within the Safety/Quality Control capacity Construction industry experience required; road construction experience, preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or related field. Proficient in MS Office products. Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Able to work under pressure and make decisions with confidence in compliance with safety protocols. Good attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Working conditions The working conditions for this job entail a combination of working in an office setting and working in the field. Offsite jobsite visits include working outdoors in various weather conditions including extreme heat/cold with exposure to loud noises and equipment with moving parts. Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, as well as operating a motor vehicle. May require evening/weekend work during periods of heavy workload.
