Seasonal Head Chef Alden Camps | Oakland, Maine Position Type: Seasonal, Full-Time Season Dates: early May - September, 2026 Compensation: $25-40/hour (some flexibility based on experience and availability in pre-and-post season, with potential for end-of-season and retention bonuses) Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week About Alden Camps For over 100 years, Alden Camps has been a beloved family resort nestled on the scenic shores of East Pond in Maine's Belgrade Lakes region. We're a traditional American Plan sporting camp offering exceptional fishing, fantastic food, and family fun in a rustic, waterfront setting. Our guests come to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature, family, and the simple pleasures of "Camp Life." American Plan meals served in our central dining room, our weekly Lobster Clam Bake, and our commitment to hospitality are at the heart of what we do. We're looking for a talented Head Chef to lead our kitchen and continue our tradition of serving memorable, gourmet meals that fuel adventures and bring families together. The Opportunity As Head Chef at Alden Camps, you'll have the unique opportunity to lead our seasonal culinary operations in one of Maine's most beautiful lakeside settings. You'll be responsible for preparing and serving three meals daily for our guests and staff, overseeing all kitchen operations, and maintaining the high standards our guests have come to expect over more than a century of operation. Key Responsibilities Food Preparation & Service Prepare all food items prior to and during meal service periods Execute breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus that are nutritious, balanced, and appealing to diverse tastes (Lunches have been boxed lunches for a couple years) Ensure consistent quality and presentation across all dishes Manage special weekly events including our signature Lobster Clam Bake on Friday evenings and special events for guests, including the potential for wedding/corporate retreat service Respond to guest and management feedback on menus, food quality, and dietary needs Kitchen Operations & Management Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations and ensure smooth, efficient service Use and maintain preparatory equipment including knives, pans, deep fryer, electric chopper, mixer, steamer, and slicers Follow portion and quality control standards to minimize waste and maintain consistency Ensure food safety standards are met for all leftover and unused food products Inventory & Supply Management/ Health, Safety & Compliance Examine and store incoming food supplies in appropriate storage and refrigeration areas Maintain accurate food product inventory and manage ordering with management Communicate supply needs and notify ownership of any shortages in advance Maintain work areas in a sanitized and orderly manner in full compliance with state health and safety regulations Report any health and/or safety concerns or violations immediately to management Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation protocols are followed at all times Team Collaboration Communicate professionally and effectively with service staff Work collaboratively with ownership and General Manager to meet guest expectations Perform other related duties as assigned What We're Looking For Required Qualifications: Proven experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Manager (camp, resort, or institutional setting preferred) Strong knowledge of large-scale food production and kitchen management Demonstrated ability to manage kitchen operations efficiently and independently Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain before start date) Excellent organizational and time management skills Physical ability to lift 40+ pounds and stand for extended periods Ideal Candidate Profile: Passionate about fresh, quality ingredients and home-style cooking Thrives in a seasonal, camp-style environment Enjoys working in a tight-knit team atmosphere Appreciates the beauty of the Maine outdoors and traditional guest resort culture Self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilities Comfortable working in a rustic, lakeside setting What We Offer Compensation & Benefits: Competitive hourly wage of $25-40/hour (some flexibility based on experience and availability in pre-and-post season, with potential for end-of-season and retention bonuses) Seasonal housing may be available (inquire during interview) Opportunity to work in one of Maine's most beautiful lakeside settings Be part of a historic family business with over 100 years of tradition Experience the peaceful, natural beauty of East Pond and the Belgrade Lakes region Work Environment: Fast-paced seasonal kitchen preparing meals for resort guests and staff Traditional American Plan dining service (three meals daily) Close-knit team in a family-owned and operated property Beautiful lakeside location with opportunities to enjoy fishing, swimming, and outdoor activities How to Apply Alden Camps is seeking candidates who are ready to start in early May, 2026.
