The core product works — users love it — and now we need to scale: more marketplaces, more reliable pricing data, a more performant mobile experience, and an engineering culture that can grow without breaking. This is a founding-team seat, not a hire that follows a path someone else laid. You’ll be the technical voice alongside product and leadership — with real equity to match.**The Role**This role is equal parts individual contributor and engineering leader — 50% writing production code, 50% shaping how this team hires, reviews, and ships. You’ll own the mobile architecture, serverless backend design, and service boundaries, while also setting code review culture, testing philosophy, deployment practices, and how this team uses AI tooling responsibly. You’ll interview candidates and define what “great” looks like for every engineering role we make. Your judgment carries weight and your output sets the standard.**First 6 Months**You’ll focus on mobile performance (app startup time, list rendering, image pipeline at scale), marketplace integrations with eBay, Depop, Meta Commerce and beyond, pricing data infrastructure for real-time ingestion and normalization, and the engineering foundations — observability, testing standards, and on-call reliability — that let the team grow without breaking.**Our Stack**React Native · TypeScript · Node.js · AWS Lambda · API Gateway · AWS CDK / SAM · GitHub Actions · Claude Code · Cursor / Copilot · AI product features (image recognition, pricing ML)**What We Need**6-10 years of professional engineering with significant production mobile or full-stack product work. Deep TypeScript and React Native expertise — you can diagnose performance regressions, reason about the native layer, and make architectural calls on component design and state management. Strong serverless AWS in production — you’ve designed systems for real load and thought carefully about cost, latency, and failure modes. A track record of technical leadership: RFCs, design reviews, or engineering standards that others followed, plus experience as an engineering manager or tech lead who’s shaped culture, not just code. Strong written communication — you document decisions, not just make them.We build with AI, not just alongside it. Fluency with Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot is baseline. More importantly, we want someone who thinks critically about where agentic tools accelerate engineering and where they introduce risk — and who can help establish team norms around their use. In your application, describe how these tools have changed your workflow and give a specific example of using them for something architecturally meaningful: a large refactor, a system design exploration, or a complex debugging session.**Nice to Have**Experience at a marketplace, fintech, or high-growth consumer product company. Real-time data systems — websockets, event streaming, or live pricing infrastructure. Third-party commerce API integrations at scale (eBay, Shopify, Meta Commerce). Background in computer vision, image recognition, or ML-adjacent product features.
