Control Engineer
We at Brick are building the control layer for an energy-constrained world — deploying AI to optimize HVAC, industrial systems, and large-scale energy loads across buildings, factories, and data centers. We’re looking for a Control Engineer / Forward Deployment Engineer to lead on-the-ground deployments of our AI energy optimization platform. This is a high-ownership, field-first role combining BMS/BAS engineering, system integration, and technical program execution.Role OverviewYou will own deployments end-to-end — from site discovery and system integration to commissioning, validation, and full-scale rollout. You’ll work directly with real-world systems (HVAC, chillers, pumps, production equipment) and act as the bridge between customer operations, field systems, and Brick’s AI/RL platform. This is not a desk role — you’ll be in the field, solving real problems, interfacing with equipment, and making systems work.Key ResponsibilitiesDeployment & CommissioningLead on-site installation, configuration, and commissioning of BMS/BAS and PLC-integrated systemsDeploy Brick edge devices (gateways, sensors, submeters) and ensure reliable data + control pathwaysPerform system startup, point-to-point testing, sensor validation, and network integrationInterface with equipment including AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, and VFDsSystem IntegrationIntegrate with existing building and industrial systems via:BACnet (IP & MS/TP), Modbus, LONPlatforms such as Niagara (Tridium), Siemens, Johnson Controls (Metasys), Honeywell, DeltaConfigure communication networks, device addressing, routing, and control interfacesEnsure reliable command execution between Brick’s platform and field devicesTroubleshooting & OptimizationDiagnose and resolve issues across:Controls hardware and wiringCommunication networks and protocol layersSensor calibration and device faultsValidate system performance and support optimization of control strategiesWork alongside internal teams to refine and deploy AI-driven control sequencesProgram Ownership (TPM)Own deployment timelines, milestones, and execution across multiple sitesCoordinate with customers, contractors, and internal engineering teamsDrive pilots (A/B testing, phased rollout) → quantify savings → scale deploymentsMaintain documentation: wiring diagrams, control logic, commissioning reports, as-builtsCollaborationAct as the primary technical interface between:Customer facility teamsBrick software / ML / product teamsSupport site walkthroughs, technical scoping, and system design decisionsRequired QualificationsTechnical BackgroundDegree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience in BAS/PLC/SCADA/DCIM systemsControls & HVAC ExpertiseStrong understanding of:BMS/DDC systems, PLCs, and building automationHVAC fundamentals (airside + waterside systems, hydronics, refrigeration)Control sequences, PID loops, sensors, and field devicesSystems & NetworkingExperience with:BACnet, Modbus, LON, IP-based networkingDevice addressing, routing, and communication troubleshootingFamiliarity with BAS platforms such as:Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, DeltaHands-On SkillsProven experience in:Installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systemsField-based work in commercial or industrial environmentsComfortable working with both hardware and software layersPreferred QualificationsCertifications: Niagara (Tridium), EPA 608, NATE, OSHAExperience with industrial facilities, healthcare, or data centersExposure to edge devices, IoT systems, or remote monitoring platformsFamiliarity with SCADA or DCIM systemsWhat We’re Looking ForHigh ownership mindset — you run the project end-to-endStrong problem-solver who thrives in messy, real-world environmentsAbility to operate independently in fast-paced, field-based settingsClear communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersWork EnvironmentField-based across commercial buildings, factories, hospitals, and data centersFrequent travel to deployment sitesWork in live operational environments requiring adaptability and precisionWhy BrickDeploy cutting-edge AI / reinforcement learning in real-world infrastructureDirect, measurable impact — 20–30%+ energy savings across live sitesFast-growing company with strong traction across the U.S. and GCCOpportunity to define the future of autonomous building and industrial control systemsIf you’re excited about building and deploying real systems — not just designing them — we’d love to hear from you.
