We stop at nothing because we’re the kind of people who give everything.The Position Medical Referral Coordinator (Organ Donation) (also known internally as Organ Communications Coordinator – OCC) is responsible for maximizing organ donation opportunities through effective referral management, staff deployment, and coordination of donation activity across the Donation Service Area (DSA). This role partners closely with hospital teams to manage incoming referrals, assess donor potential through medical record review, coordinate staff response, and support timely, accurate communication throughout the donation process. The Medical Referral Coordinator also conducts retrospective reviews of eye and tissue referrals to identify missed donation opportunities and ensure regulatory compliance.What You’ll DoReferral ManagementFollows up with donor hospital partners on active organ donor referrals at least every morning and night to assess for changes that would require an on-site presence or other action necessary to preserve donation opportunities Handles incoming organ referrals calls from donor hospital partners Utilizes appropriate tools and platforms to deploy staff onsite for referrals, brain death exams, end of life decisions, and other opportunities to interface with and educate donor hospital staff Access hospital electronic medical record (EMR) to review pertinent medical history and clinical course. Transfer appropriate data into True North (TN) and review donor suitability with administrator on call (AOC), or Medical Director(s) when needed Arrange for air and ground travel and other logistics related to regional case activity Communicates with hospital personnel, organ work system (OWS) staff, Approach Coach, and AOCs on a frequent basis Triages incoming requests, notifications, and communication from transplant centers regarding current and completed cases as needed   Donor AssessmentConducts primary assessment of potential donors to maximize donation opportunities while collaborating with Mid-America Transplant clinical staff, hospital staff, physicians, and leadership. Uses hospital Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to compile medical history, and current clinical course that is used to determine donation potential. Documents donor information from EMR into True North. Conducts retrospective medical record review for hospital in the Mid-America Transplant designated services area according to regulatory and accrediting guidelines Schedule Weekday Day shift -three 12-hour shifts. (Mon, Wed, Thurs 7am-7pm)What You’ll BringAssociates degree and previous experience in a medical-related field required.  Experience as an EMT, Medical Assistant, or CNA preferred.
