Tooling & Production Support Specialist
he Tooling & Production Support Specialist is responsible for managing, maintaining, and distributing all consumable tooling and tool holding assets to support production. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, ensuring tooling availability, and maintaining an organized, efficient tool crib operation. This position supports both 1st and 2nd shift operations.This individual will also support plant-wide chip management and assist in maintaining a clean and safe manufacturing environment.Reports to: Production SupervisorResponsibilities:Tooling Inventory & ControlTrack and maintain inventory of all consumable tooling (cutting tools, inserts, drills, end mills, etc.)Monitor usage rates and replenish stock to prevent production shortagesTrack recycled tooling and carbide return programsMaintain accurate records of tool usage, scrap, and inventory levelsToolholder ManagementTrack and maintain all toolholders (heat shrink, hydraulic, collet, etc.)Inspect toolholders for wear, damage, and runout issuesEnsure toolholders are clean, organized, and ready for production useTool Assembly & PresettingAssemble tooling per engineering setup sheetsBuild tools using:Heat shrink systemsHydraulic toolholdersStandard collet/ER systemsVerify tool lengths, offsets, and configurations match setup requirementsEnsure tools are production-ready prior to deliveryProduction SupportDeliver tooling to machining cells across the plantPick up used, worn, or damaged tooling for evaluation/replacementWork closely with machinists, setup personnel, and engineering to resolve tooling issues quicklyChip ManagementEmpty chip bins daily (minimum once per morning and as needed throughout the day)Coordinate chip removal and recycling processesMaintain cleanliness around chip handling areasOrganization & Continuous ImprovementMaintain a clean, organized, and efficient tool cribIdentify opportunities to reduce tooling costs and improve efficiencySupport implementation of standardized tooling systems and controlsExperience:RequiredFamiliarity with cutting tools, inserts, and toolholdersExperience reading setup sheets or basic blueprintsStrong organizational and attention-to-detail skillsAbility to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentBasic computer skills (inventory tracking systems, Excel, etc.)Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be on feet for extended periodsPreferred (Not Required)Prior tool crib or inventory experienceCNC machining or manufacturing experienceWork EnvironmentManufacturing shop floor environment (CNC machining)Exposure to cutting fluids, metal chips, and moving equipmentPPE required per company policyThis position involves access to technical data and information governed by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
