ESOL Secondary Social Science Teacher 870 (Northeast High)
Teach content subjects aligned to state and national standards outlined by KCPS’ guaranteed and viable
curriculum. Proactively seeks to identify, screen possible English Learners, assess, and collaborate with
all staff members to ensure English Language Development instruction, monitoring, and support is
provided within all subject areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitates learning and instruction by using multiple presentation methods: demonstrating,modeling, visual representations, and strategies that aid in supplementing and engaging studentsin the content.
Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines andrequirements of state and school.
Adapts/Scaffolds/Differentiates materials, assignments, and assessments to meet the needs ofEnglish language learners.
Collaborates with all staff members to link ESL and content instruction and student needs toprovide support for English language learners.
Administers assessments to evaluate the progress and results and issues reports to inform allstakeholders of student progress.
Keeps and maintains grades, attendance, lesson plans, student records, discipline information
Maintains a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
Ensures communication and translation/interpretation for stakeholders (parents/guardians) in theirnative language when possible
Participates in multiple meeting types: department, building, faculty, and professional meetings,educational conferences, professional development, and workshops.
Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Education from a four-year college or university
Valid Missouri State Certification in grade level or content area assigned
Valid Missouri State Certification in ESL (K-12) or willing to obtain ESL Endorsement
SUCCESS FACTORS:
Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching
English language learners.
Teaching experience in urban schools.
