Engineering Specialist

HCR Permanent Search is working with a Global Manufacturer specializing in advanced surface finishing technologies for automotive and industrial applications. They are searching for an Engineering Specialist (Paint / E‑Coat / Powder Coating) to provide expert-level technical leadership across multiple divisions.Work Setting:On Site / Hybrid flexibility depending on project needsLocation Details:Toronto, Canada or Detroit, Michigan, USA (Global support required; travel under 20%)MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field (Master’s preferred).Minimum 10+ years of hands-on experience in electrocoating, pretreatment, and/or powder coating processes.Experience supporting manufacturing operations, R&D initiatives, and cross-functional engineering teams.Ability to interpret OEM specifications and provide expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders.Strong background in troubleshooting, process optimization, and technical problem-solving.Supervisory or team leadership experience (formal or informal).Ability to travel globally (less than 20%).RESPONSIBILITIESTechnical & Engineering SupportProvide expert-level support to global divisions on issues related to e‑coat, pretreatment, and powder coating.Act as the primary engineering representative when interfacing with OEM customers.Troubleshoot complex coating and finishing issues across multiple facilities.Support program launches and new manufacturing facility development.Review supplier analytical results and ensure process monitoring accuracy.Conduct periodic audits of divisions or suppliers within assigned areas of expertise.Innovation & DevelopmentDevelop new technologies to meet evolving customer and industry requirements.Maintain a pipeline of R&D projects to stay ahead of future specifications.Conceive and validate new approaches to coating applications and process challenges.Plan and execute testing, DOE studies, and pre‑production trials.Review product designs for compliance with engineering principles and performance standards.Analyze engineering results and recommend design or process modifications.Project & Process LeadershipCoordinate communication with global divisions on equipment advancements, best practices, and lessons learned.Prepare RFQs and evaluate cost/benefit analyses for divisional and R&D projects.Develop project progress reports and business cases for leadership review.Recommend enhancements to improve product quality, systems, and procedures.Plan and deliver training sessions; document procedures and lessons learned.Keep the organization informed of developments in assigned technical areas.Travel RequirementsLess than 20%Global travel to support divisions as requiredIf you believe you are an outstanding candidate for this opportunity, we invite you to submit your resume and all relevant information to HCR Permanent Search in confidence at:Crystal LengCleng@hcr.caPlease indicate the name of the position you are applying for in the subject heading.
