Job Title: Specimen Technician - 3rd ShiftJob Location: Pittsburgh, PA 15220Job Duration: 4 Months of contractShift: Monday- Friday 10pm-6:30am ESTPosition Summary:The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves a variety of tasks related to handling and processing laboratory specimens, requiring strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:Perform functions such as A-station processing, presorting, specimen pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquotingAccurately enter data, maintaining a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hourEnsure all tasks are completed with a high level of accuracy, efficiency, and timelinessLearn and understand specimen types and corresponding tests ordered by clientsStay updated on compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change frequentlyMaintain a clean and organized work areaFollow all safety protocols, especially when working in a biohazard environmentCommunicate effectively with team members and other departmentsDemonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and customer demandsSupport overall departmental productivity, quality standards, and turnaround timesWork Environment & Schedule: Production-based environment with emphasis on productivity and qualityExposure to biohazard materials; adherence to safety practices is requiredAbility to sit or stand for extended periodsPrimarily night shift (3rd shift: 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM EST), with variable schedulingAvailability for weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as neededQualifications:Education: High school diploma or equivalent requiredRequired Knowledge & Skills: Basic computer proficiency and data entry skillsStrong organizational and multitasking abilitiesGood communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to adapt quickly to changes in procedures and workloadPreferred Qualifications: Prior laboratory or specimen processing experienceFamiliarity with medical terminologyExperience in a hospital or production environment
