ACE Student Leader-Peer Tutor Role (CRLA Level One Certification)

Job Description:ACE Student Leader - Peer Tutor Role: Peer tutors are faculty-recommended students who provide individual and small group tutoring sessions in subjects the tutor has attained a grade of B+ or better. Within their tutoring sessions, peer tutors integrate effective study and learning strategies as well as provide next steps to help the student become a successful, independent learner.Essential Job Functions:Tutor students in specific course material in the subject(s) you are qualified to tutorProvide learning strategies and study tips to promote independent learningMaintain consistent communication with your direct supervisorsAssist students in navigating Blackboard and understanding course expectationsHelp students in locating and submitting assignmentsAssist students in posting to a discussion boardAssist students in developing time management, communication, and study skills to promote academic successContribute to a friendly and productive learning environment within the ACE DepartmentProvide support to students in person in our tutoring centers, or online via zoomAssist in Academic Support workshops as neededAttend ACE Student Leader training and monthly meetingsBe aware of and advocate for the other resources and services provided at MCCModel appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to staff, faculty, and studentsComplete other ACE Department tasks as assigned Requirements:Position Requirements:Must have completed and earned a B+ or higher in the course(s) that you wish to tutorSTEM tutors must be able to support 2 coursesMaintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0Attend ACE Student Leader monthly meetingsComplete the required ACE Student Leader minimum 15-hour trainingDemonstrate knowledge and competence in, as well as a passion for, the subject(s) you tutorDemonstrate an ability to work and communicate well with students of various academic levels and diverse backgroundsBe available 4-6 hours per week for tutoring (between 9am-6pm)Effectively explain concepts to others and communicate study strategies to ensure academic success within the courseComplete and submit all ACE Department assignments and paperwork in a timely mannerComplete Appointment Summaries of tutoring sessionsExhibit patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environmentExhibit good organizational, communication, and basic computing skillsEffectively market ACE services and promote the benefits of peer tutoringWork toward CRLA Level I certificationMeet with students for 1:1 tutoring sessions, with a goal of 25 tutoring hours Additional Information:Additional Information:Salary: $18.25 per hourTo be considered for the Peer Tutor role:Submit your resume and cover letter through Interview ExchangeAttend one of the ACE Department's group information sessionsBe recommended by a faculty member Writing Tutors: Please write a brief reflective essay that responds to the following prompt, "What do you think your life, and the world around you, will look like in 20 years?"
