General Job Summary:Hit Apply below to send your application for consideration Ensure that your CV is up to date, and that you have read the job specs first.To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages a classroom of 7-8 students with a variety of special needs to develop and fulfill their physical, emotional, and academic potential.Essential Job Functions:Develop a Individual Service Plan for each child who meets criteria, using information from assessment and evaluation instruments, appropriate Extended Content Standards, curriculum guides and input from parents, therapists, and other staff members.Utilize approved methods of behavior management and inform Assistant Director if additional support is needed.Hold regular meetings/communication time with teacher assistant(s) to plan activities, designate responsibilities for the daily schedule, discuss appropriate teaching methods and materials, and review daily data and other record keeping.Prepare monthly summary of data on ISP goals for each child who meets criteria, including data from goals taught by the teacher assistant(s).Prepare quarterly reports on each child who has an ISP, including data from the teacher assistant(s), to be presented to parents/guardians.Present suggested ISP objectives and communicate progress to patents/guardians in quarterly meetings.Participate in all activities to maintain the school’s policies, standards, and licensing requirements.Participate in cooperative planning and implementation of activities including special school programs and events, playground activities, field trips, physical fitness programs, and enrichment activities.Initiate requests to the Assistant Director for assistance in meeting specialized needs of children.Work cooperatively with therapists in implementing program recommendations and providing evaluation of recommendations.Participate in weekly meetings with the Assistant Director and to review information, procedures, difficulties in addressing problem areas, and reporting successful intervention activities.Respond in a timely manner to suggestions and recommendations made by administrators.Attend/contribute weekly staff meetings and scheduled parent meetings.Utilize a variety of curriculum guides, activity guides and teaching materials that are available in the school or other community resources.Attend in-service or professional development as required or approved by the Assistant Director.Comply with the school’s daily/weekly schedule of duties, and with the policies and procedures as set forth in the Personnel Manual.Qualifications:Commitment to learning and using augmentative communication systems as needed for enrolled children. Daily use of sign language is required.Ability to work with parents in a positive manner.Willingness to work with supervisory personnel.Ability to communicate in a positive and productive manner with paraprofessionals and peer professionals.Ability and willingness to supervise teacher assistant(s).Willingness to participate in a multidisciplinary approach to education.Keep certification activeKnowledge of the needs of children and families and ability to meet these needs with consistency and warmth.Requirements:Completion of employment application.Submission of three recommendations: two professional and one personal.Completion of health examination and TB test at own expense within one year prior to employment. TB test and completion of health questionnaire annually thereafter.Submission of criminal background check and fingerprinting as required by the NC Division of Child Care.Certification in First Aid and child CPR, or willingness to participate in training for both.Education and/or Experience:College degree in education, with courses in special education.K-6 Certification in NCB-K Certification in NC is not required but encouragedExperience working with preschool and elementary age children preferred.Physical Demands:Ability to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds.Ability to operate standard office equipment.Able to bend, stoop, and reach frequently.Ability to physically perform the essential job functions.Work Environment/Environmental Condition:Small Classroom settingWorking in conditions that are sometimes emotionally demanding and physically draining.Ability to work with high stress levels from heavy workloads and administrative tasks.Status:Full-timeCompany DescriptionWe believe that to continue to do the life-changing work that our school has become known for in the community, we must have a staff that are knowledgeable, caring, and professional.
