Job Summary/Key Responsibilities:
The Cargo Claims Analyst role is part of the Claims Department within the Legal Division and is responsible for processing marine cargo claims. The position manages a portfolio of cargo claims for assigned U.S. ports, overseeing the full claims lifecycle from receipt through resolution. This includes conducting detailed investigations, evaluating liability and damages, and ensuring timely and compliant claim handling.
The role operates with a high degree of independence while requiring close collaboration with internal departments and external stakeholders, including customers and vendors in the United States and abroad, to support accurate, efficient, and legally compliant claims resolution.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Manage and independently oversee a caseload of marine cargo claims for assigned ports.
Closely track cargo claims files throughout their development and provide status updates as required.
Conduct thorough claim investigations, including review of policies, liability assessment, damage evaluation, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Maintain detailed, accurate, and well-organized claim records to ensure the most current information is readily available for internal review.
Monitor claims files for unusual circumstances or risk factors requiring escalation within the company.
Track, enforce, and issue notices for strict contractual and legal deadlines.
Engage and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, colleagues, and counterparties both domestically and internationally to maintain consistent information flow.
Pursue collections and recovery efforts against third parties when applicable.
Analyze complex fact patterns and distill them into clear, concise written summaries.
Coordinate with internal departments to ensure adherence to internal procedures, documentation standards, and compliance requirements.
Presence required on-site 5 days per week.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Experience with work involving maintaining complex records in an organized fashion.
Experience with commercial collections preferred.
