Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.PIPE WELDER - LEVEL 4/5ResponsibilitiesComplete welding assignments and procedures for the construction and repair of all site structural stands on time, safely, and in a professional mannerCut, trim, or scarf metal objects, fit and fabricate metal components to dimensions for building and assembling test site structural formsUnder the supervision of a lead welder, analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan welding operations where procedural information is unavailableUtilize hand welding and flame-cutting equipment to weld together metal components and parts to assemble structural formsAbility to visually inspect own welds per American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B31.3 (normal and high-pressure service) with proper trainingObtain and maintain internal licenses, operator permits, or certifications as requiredMake a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointlyWork in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities based on program needsPerform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environmentBasic QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalency certificate6+ years of experience with tungsten inert gas (TIG) or gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) weldingPreferred Skills And Experience8+ years of experience using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), oxy-acetylene, fitting, and arc gouging related to the tradeKnowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, AWS/ASME codes, and engineering requirementsExperience with standard tools, materials, motions, and practices of the welding tradeKnowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in relation to welding and brazingKnowledge of occupational hazards and effective safety precautions of the tradeKnowledge of arc air procedures and equipmentExperience with precision measuring instrumentsAbility to rapidly change roles and responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environmentAdditional RequirementsValid driver’s licenseTypically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rainWork performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noiseMust be available for overtime and weekends as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is requiredStand: Up to 10 hours per daySit: Up to 10 hours per dayPush/Pull: Up to 75lbs.
