Material Manager

Job Title: Material ManagerDuration: 12 Months ContractLocation: Hillsboro, TX 76645 (Per Diem Available)Schedule: M-F, 40 Hours per weekPosition SummaryThe Material Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, tracking, and control of materials across multiple projects and field locations in Texas.This role serves as a central point of coordination between early-stage project management, engineering, contractors, purchasing, accounting, business management, and material vendors to ensure materials are properly forecasted, procured, received, tracked, transferred, and reconciled throughout the project lifecycle.The Material Manager plays a critical role in maintaining material visibility, minimizing delays, controlling costs, and supporting efficient execution of construction and operations activities.This position requires frequent field presence, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesMaterial Planning and CoordinationDevelop and maintain material tracking processes for multiple active and early-stage projects.Coordinate material requirements with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to support project schedules and milestones.Review material forecasts, bills of material, and project needs to help ensure timely availability of required items.Support early-stage project planning by identifying material needs, lead times, storage requirements, and logistics considerations.Material Tracking and TransfersTrack materials from requisition and purchase through delivery, receipt, storage, transfer, installation, and final reconciliation.Monitor and manage material movement between various projects, warehouses, laydown yards, and field locations.Ensure accurate documentation and traceability of material transfers between jobs, cost centers, and business units.Maintain current records of material quantities, locations, condition, and usage status.Field and Site SupportWork closely with field teams across multiple Texas locations to verify material deliveries, inventory levels, and site needs.Conduct field visits to inspect material storage conditions, verify receipts, and resolve discrepancies.Coordinate with contractors and site personnel to ensure proper handling, staging, and usage of materials.Support field teams in identifying shortages, overages, damages, and missing materials.Cross-Functional InterfaceAct as liaison between project management, engineering, contractors, purchasing, accounting, business management, and vendors.Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve specification changes, substitutions, and material-related technical issues.Work with purchasing to monitor procurement status, expedite critical items, and support vendor communication.Coordinate with accounting and business management to ensure proper material cost coding, accruals, inventory valuation, and financial reconciliation.Vendor and Procurement SupportInterface with material vendors and suppliers regarding order status, shipment schedules, delivery issues, and returns.Support procurement teams with expediting, discrepancy resolution, and documentation related to receipts and invoices.Review packing slips, receiving documentation, and material status reports for accuracy and completeness.Assist with identifying long-lead items and potential supply chain risks that may impact project execution.Inventory Control and ReportingMaintain organized and accurate material records in applicable tracking systems, spreadsheets, or enterprise platforms.Prepare regular reports on material status, shortages, transfers, surplus, and inventory balances.Reconcile received materials against purchase orders, invoices, and project requirements.Support audits and internal controls related to inventory, material usage, and project cost tracking.Issue Resolution and Continuous ImprovementInvestigate and resolve material discrepancies, damaged shipments, missing items, invoicing mismatches, and transfer issues.Identify opportunities to improve material tracking, communication, and coordination processes across projects.Promote consistent material management practices across all supported field locations.Assist in the development and implementation of procedures, standards, and best practices for material management.Required QualificationsMinimum 7 years of experience in material management, inventory control, logistics, construction support, or project operations.Experience supporting multiple projects and coordinating material movement across field locations.Strong understanding of procurement, receiving, inventory control, and material reconciliation processes.Experience working with project teams, contractors, vendors, and cross-functional business groups.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, inventory systems, or project management platforms preferred.Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across multiple locations.Preferred QualificationsExperience in utility, energy, construction, infrastructure, or industrial project environments.Familiarity with material tracking systems, warehouse practices, and field logistics.Experience supporting project cost tracking and coordination with accounting functions.Knowledge of purchase orders, receiving documentation, invoice reconciliation, and job cost
