Posting Summary
The Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University is seeking a temporary Marine Science Research Scientist to support externally funded research on ocean-glacier interactions from July 1, 2026 through August 31, 2026. This full-time (37.5 hours/week) appointment involves conducting independent research using numerical ocean modeling (ROMS) and observational datasets to investigate exchange flow dynamics, mixing, and stratification processes in glacial fjords.
The position also includes analysis of remotely operated vehicle (ROV) data collected from KAS Glacier in West Greenland to examine subglacial discharge plumes and sediment interactions. The individual will synthesize findings, prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, and contribute to deliverables under sponsored research awards.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
PhD in Oceanography, Marine Science, or a closely related field
Demonstrated experience in numerical ocean modeling (e.g., ROMS)
Strong background in oceanographic data analysis
Ability to conduct independent research and produce publishable results
Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ocean-glacier systems or polar environments
Familiarity with ROV-based data analysis
Record of peer-reviewed scientific publications
Equipment Utilized
High-performance computing systems and remote servers for numerical modeling
Scientific programming environments (Python, MATLAB)
Oceanographic datasets and visualization/analysis tools
ROV data processing tools and related software
Standard office computing equipment
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Primarily sedentary work involving extended periods of computer use
Manual dexterity for typing and data analysis tasks
