Health and Wellness Educator

Job Summary Develop, execute, and evaluate customized health education, screenings, wellness, nutrition and fitness programming for the clients we serve following evidence and research-based health education models and strategies, using telephonic, written, and face-to-face education approaches. Provide venipuncture lab draws at onsite health screenings. Represent the hospital professionally and favorably. Qualifications Education: A Bachelor's Degree in a health-related discipline or a Nursing Degree. Other degrees will be considered when presented in conjunction with relevant work experience in health education. If not already certified, the Health Educator will be encouraged to achieve fitness, CHES or other certification directly related to the services of the department. Training: Three to six months orientation as needed. Appropriate industry certifications (fitness, coaching, ACSM, ACE, CHES, etc.) desired within one year of hire. Venipuncture/lab draw training and competency required. Experience: Worksite health promotion and a minimum of 6 months experience in teaching, health promotion, wellness, nursing, or health-related work is desirable. Venipuncture/lab draw experience desirable. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong program planning, problem-solving, and design skills. Knowledge of current health education, biometric health screening, and health promotion practices and demonstrates competency in teaching information to people of all ages, including but not limited to core health and wellness topics. Skills in the utilization of basic computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint. Strong customer service skills and effective communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Work independently and as a team player with a varied schedule and multiple projects. Ability to work with groups of all sizes. Knowledge of standards for optimal health and skills in health screening. Performance Requirements Responsibility for: Planning, developing, implementing and evaluating health and wellness programs for the community and workplace. Assessing needs to determine best approach for employer and individual wellness programs and services. Teaching a variety of health programs to all ages, assessing health risks of individuals, providing telephonic and computerized wellness coaching to individuals and screening participants according to health standards. Coordinating wellness programs including developing programs, promotion, maintaining databases, and evaluation of services. Developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external customers, communicating regularly to assess satisfaction. Proper setup, care and cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Reflect the mission, philosophy, and core values of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in action and attitude. Physical demands: Frequent standing and walking involved. Walks about, climbing stairs including carrying of supplies up and down stairs and in and out of cars, requesting assistance when needed. Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds. Bending, reaching, and stooping is required. Visual, auditory, and speech acuity is essential. Some exposure to disagreeable environmental conditions may occur. Daily travel providing wellness programs within the region and service area is expected. Special Demands: May come into contact with infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens. Safety precautions as described in department and hospital safety manuals must be adhered to. Willingness and ability to adapt schedule to meet the demands of the department. 1-3 Saturdays a year. Excellent oral speaking and presentation skills. Ability to motivate others to practice safe and healthy lifestyles. Must be prompt and dependable.
