Experience with mechanical ventilation and ventilator setup required.Competence with invasive and non-invasive ventilation, tracheostomy care, suctioning, arterial blood gas collection, and oximetry/capnography monitoring.Experience performing 12-lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition.BLS certification required. ACLS preferred.Ability to assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube management, and percutaneous tracheostomy per facility policy.Proficiency in documenting respiratory care treatments, charges, and patient responses in the medical record.Preferred: prior experience in moderate complexity hospital labs and with pulmonary function testing (NIF, VC)./n/nAssignment Details/nFacility type: Hospital.Shift: Nights.Shift pattern: Night (3x12).Duration: 13 week assignment.Number of positions: 1./n/nLocation Highlights/n/nAlexandria, VA offers easy access to both historic and outdoor attractions within short drives. Recreation options include bike trails along the Potomac River and nearby Mount Vernon estate, supporting a suburban-coastal lifestyle with historic and cultural amenities./n/n/nStandard Job Description/nRespiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans. Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and provides necessary education upon discharge to home. Conducts physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, ventilation and oxygenation./nPerforms chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods. Performs oximetry and capnography monitoring. Reviews chest x-rays for need for further evaluation. Performs 12-lead EKG and arrhythmia recognition. Conducts pulmonary function studies. Assists with procedures related to respiratory care such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement. Performs tracheostomy care, arterial puncture for blood gas sampling, and documents results. Operates, maintains and monitors mechanical ventilators. Performs CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines. Records all pertinent treatment information and communicates with physicians and shift staff.
