Reports To: Installation Team Lead
Position Purpose
The Control Installer 1 is an entry-level position within the controls installation career path and serves as the foundation for growth toward a Journeyman-level technician. This role is designed for individuals with little to no prior low-voltage or controls trade experience. In this position, the employee will be introduced to the fundamental skills and practices required in building automation and controls installation.
Starting compensation for this position is commensurate with any applicable prior trade experience the candidate brings to the role. The typical duration of the Control Installer 1 classification is one (1) year, after which advancement is evaluated based on demonstrated skill development and performance.

Duties and Responsibilities
Begin developing core skills:
Work safely with proper use of PPE and hand/power tools
Maintain an organized and efficient work approach
Learn and develop basic trade skills including, but not limited to: bending EMT, IMC, and rigid conduit; proper wire labeling and wire pulling techniques; and basic device and controller termination skills
Begin developing basic troubleshooting awareness under direct supervision
Adhere to HBT standards, policies, and procedures at all times
Communicate regularly with project management and installation management staff
Ability to work overtime and overnight shifts when requested by controls management
Support HBT's financial goals and operating principles
Consistently uphold safety to the highest standards; maintain accountability for company-issued and procured assets by documenting use, wear, and condition
Exhibit professional conduct at all times, whether on the job site or operating company vehicles
Attend all required departmental meetings
Attend company or vendor training sessions as required
Complete and build upon your Controls Technician Skill Set Tree (evaluation to be provided by your manager)
Position Requirements

Develop foundational knowledge of HVAC and electrical systems
Develop proficiency navigating Windows-based platforms
Develop an understanding of construction site environments and standards
High school diploma or GED2. Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and maintain compliance with a drug-free workplace policy
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Prior trade or construction experience is preferred but not required
Basic working knowledge of Windows OS and PC functions, including file system navigation and software installation
Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
Preferred Education and Experience
Associate's degree and/or trade school certificate
Relevant field or construction work experience
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. This is a highly physical position requiring regular use of ladders, extended periods of walking, operation of hand and power tools, and the lifting of heavy objects and materials.
