TOOL MAKER TOOL ROOM
DescriptionThe toolmaker is responsible for making precision tools (such as jigs, moulds and dies), special guides and holding devices. They will work with a variety of materials including steels, aluminum, high temp alloys and plastics. A toolmaker’s job will also involve using computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines, so understanding of g-code programming is necessary.Typical Tasks IncludeAssembling, fitting and repairing toolsFollowing engineering drawings to measure and mark out the design for the toolUsing machinery such as manual and CNC lathes, manual and CNC mills, presses, and grinders to cut and shape the toolsUsing 2D and 3D computer aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM)Using precision measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, microhite, etc. Assisting with tool maintenanceSchedule workflows in tool roomSupport engineering staff in the design of tools and diesMaintain the work area and equipment in a clean and organized fashion that follows all required safety policies and regulationsRequirementsQualifications:3+ years toolmaking experience is preferred3+ years running manual and CNC lathes and millsAbility to read drawings and process sheetsWorking knowledge of GD&T
