Stress Engineer
Company OverviewHybron is an advanced manufacturing company that is building lightweight composites at mass production scale. At Hybron, we have pioneered a new composites manufacturing process that enables complex, high performance composite parts to be produced 10-100 times faster than traditional manufacturing, at a fraction of the cost.We recently closed an oversubscribed $25M seed round, are backed by the Northrop Grumman Technology Accelerator, and are rapidly growing to commercialize and mass produce composite products at a scale never seen before. Our current focus is applying our proprietary process to composite artillery shells, solid rocket motor nozzles, gas turbine engine components, and airframes. If you want to join a rapidly growing company working on cutting edge composites technology while building capabilities for the warfighter and reshoring U.S. manufacturing, then we want to speak with you.About The RoleThis is a full-time, in-person role at our El Segundo facility. As you will be working at an early-stage deep tech startup, this role will span many different tasks. You will need to be a self-starter and be adaptable to performing many different jobs. Along with these high expectations comes the opportunity to significantly influence the product development, strategy, and trajectory of a fast-growing startup company. Your work will tangibly impact our company and the composites industry, and you will be able to make rapid professional gains in an environment that encourages growth and innovation. As the first Stress Engineer, you’ll lay the foundation for and own the structural analysis of Hybron’s fiber-reinforced composites, using a novel material construction. You’ll build and validate advanced FEA models, guide design and material choices, and ensure parts meet demanding aerospace, defense, and energy requirements. Your work will bridge simulation, testing, and manufacturing, directly shaping how our technology is applied and optimized for mission-critical applications like artillery shells and aerospace structures.Working in a high-growth company, you will be wearing many hats: project management, requirements identification, simulation/analysis, product design, testing design, test execution, quality inspection, cross-team collaboration, customer engagement, and more.Growth OpportunitiesAs Hybron grows, structural analysis is expected to be a key capability that our company develops. As the first stress engineer on the team, there will be significant opportunity to build and lead Hybron’s composites structural analysis team, with pathways to a manager role, director role, and beyond.Make key decisions and spearhead initiatives that will directly shape Hybron’s simulation capabilities and methodologyIdentify and execute on developing/integrating strategic technological capabilitiesManage a team of structural engineers for product and technology developmentContribute to IP and novel analysis techniquesAssist with technical business development efforts Spearhead, oversee, and deliver on large technology development initiativesWhat We’re Looking ForMust be a U.S. Person pursuant to EAR and ITAR definitionsAbility to work in-person at our facility in El SegundoBachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or science field (Composites, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Polymer Science, etc.)3+ years of industry experience in composites stress analysisDemonstrated experience in building and refining an FEA model for a novel material or compositionAbility to build up an entire FEA system, including software selection and setup, parameter selection, and initial testing and validationAbility to utilize FEA to design and optimize composite geometries to minimize weight and optimize performanceAbility to design mechanical test methods for coupon, representative part, and final part geometriesAbility to oversee the execution of these tests, ideally with experience in performing the tests themselvesExperience with failure analysis and root cause analysisStrong CAD proficiency for part, assembly, and drawing creation with GD&TStrong problem-solving skills, with a drive to deliver on ambitious schedules, even and especially if unconventional & creative solutions are necessary to do soThrives in cross-functional organizations with strong communication and collaborationNice to HavesExperience with simulating both chopped fiber materials and continuous fiber layupsExperience with Abaqus simulation softwareExperience with thermal simulationsComposites manufacturing experienceExperience in the Aerospace or Defense industryExperience simulating projectiles under high g-loadsExperience with creating and presenting business cases to upper managementExperience working at or leading a small company/business, or with small teamsCompensation And Schedule$138,000 – $249,000 per year Significant stock options in the companyPotential additional compensationMondays – Fridays in-person BenefitsPaid time offVacation – 10+ working days per yearSick – 5 working days per yearHybron observes US holidays with several additional days off to keep you chargedDaily lunches provided by the company401K with employer-matched contributions up to 4% of salaryHealthcare benefitsMedical insurance – 95% EE, 75% DEP employer contributionDental insurance – 95% EE, 75% DEP employer contributionVision insurance – 95% EE, 75% DEP employer contributionLife, short and long-term disability insurance – 100% company coveredWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.Powered by JazzHRF56XzRdjWr
