Smith!We are Responsive We have Integrity We are Dynamic We exhibit ExcellencePRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITESAssist implementing packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testingEnsure all packaging and preservation materials and practices comply and adherence to government packaging requirements and best practices for packagingAssist with troubleshooting new or existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutionsAssist in the establishment and maintenance of production standards, station workload balances, and labor requirements for all phases of service part distribution operationsAssist in establishing material flow, equipment and material station lay-outs and review on a regular basis for improvement opportunitiesAssist in establishing labor and material requirements for engineering changes, make vs. buy studiesAdvocate for continuous improvement on process and engineering changes impacting distribution efficiencies and report out to internal and external stakeholdersMonitor and control production speed for flexible workstations and preservation line ratesParticipate in using and implementation of Lean Six Sigma and ISO Standard tools within the assembly process flowKNOWLEDGE & SKILLSSenior-level undergraduate students, recent graduates (Manufacturing Processes or Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Industrial Engineering), or graduate students pursuing a Master's degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Industrial Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering TechnologyExperience in an automotive assembly or heavy equipment plant is a plusBasic understanding of establishing distribution operation layouts and cost proposalsBasic understanding of SAP, Auto-CAD, UG and Vis-Mock Up is a plusProficiency in MS Office suiteExperience using Team Center is a plusAbility to assist in taking charge of programs through interfacing with departments and vendorsLean Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification or equivalent a plusPHYSICAL EFFORTSight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity so as to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Employee must be able to perform job functions in environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noisesTeamwork: This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplaceListening Skills: This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accuratelyAbility to follow instructions: Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary depending on the products being manufactured; this position should be able to follow instructions competentlyMethodical approach: Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production lineConcentration: This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes.
