Marketing Editor
What Zoho does
Zoho builds cloud-based business apps for a wide array of industries and purposes. Over the past 25+ years, our portfolio has grown from a single online word-processing tool to a comprehensive suite of apps that covers an industry-leading range of use cases. With 55+ products on offer—and even more in the development pipeline—Zoho is a powerful, integrated platform built for growing businesses.
Who we are
Privately held and deeply committed to solving problems through global collaboration, our organization believes in experimentation, iteration, and following your instincts. Although we have a growing US operation, the bulk of our employees live and work in Chennai, India, so our work often takes place across time zones, cultures, and sometimes languages.
Our review team, which is based in the US, is a dedicated crew of skilled writers who enjoy arguing over idioms or debating whether a clause is restrictive or non-restrictive. We have backgrounds in a range of fields, including teaching, marketing, and online journalism.
What we're offering
We're currently looking to bring on a full-time salaried editor to work with some of our product teams on their marketing content, including blog posts, webpages, social media, and email marketing. Other project opportunities and responsibilities may arise in accordance with performance and available workload. The level of experience required for this position is negotiable; for the right person, the responsibilities of the job will be tailored to fit the candidate's strengths and capacities. Pay is $60,000–$70,000, depending on skills and qualifications.
What we're looking for
Our ideal candidate is comfortable with technology, marketing, and the principles of English grammar. Marketing editors require patience, dedication, and attention to detail, as well as good instincts for how to position a product. The ability to consistently adhere to our style guide is a must, as is an "empathy first" approach to editorial work.
Required qualifications
Advanced understanding of the mechanics of English grammar
Exceptional writing skills
Empathetic nature
Persuasive rather than autocratic approach to editing
Patience and resilience
Inclination toward independent learning
Willingness to teach and explain
Respect for different cultures
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (domestically 1-2 times per year, internationally once per year)
Optional (but preferred) qualifications
Experience with content or product marketing
Background in teaching/education
Professional knowledge of business, including sales, marketing, finance, HR, etc
Significant time spent living or working abroad, and/or close connection to the non-Anglophone world
Knowledge of technical topics, like coding, app development, and analytics
What you should know about Zoho before applying
Zoho is and will always be a privately held company because we prefer to focus on customers and employees rather than shareholders. That means prospective employees should not join Zoho in pursuit of a large, lump-sum payout or stock options.
Zoho does not aspire to the "cool tech company" image, preferring instead to embrace a more down-to-earth company culture. If a flashy campus or downtown office is important to you, you’ll likely be disappointed.
Our ideal candidate is looking to build a long-term career at Zoho. In exchange, we clear space for people to grow and progress within our organization, offering the freedom to explore new passions and expand areas of responsibility and ownership. Candidates who are looking for a short-term gig are discouraged from applying.
Zoho is a low-ego company. We care very little about job titles and status, preferring instead to reward employees of all levels for their flexibility, values, and creative ambition. Candidates who are highly invested in hierarchy tend to struggle with Zoho's flat organizational culture.
Zoho rewards independent self-starters who can learn on the job. Rather than structuring work around daily feedback or tightly managed performance metrics, we prefer to give employees a high degree of freedom, but in exchange, they must be motivated to actively drive their own success. We do not micromanage, but we don't hand hold either.
The most successful Zoho team members are:
At ease in a diverse, multicultural workplace
Quick on their feet
Comfortable with ambiguity and complexity
Flexible and patient, with an "all hands on deck" attitude
Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback for the benefit of the team
Authentic, humble, and collaborative
