Short Description:DC Public Schools (DCPS) is seeking a Technical Specialist (Journeyman)to provide technical subject‑matter expertise for the planning, design, integration, and deployment of audiovisual (AV) and related infrastructure systems across DCPS facilities.Complete Description:Position OverviewDC Public Schools (DCPS) is seeking a Technical Specialist (Journeyman) to provide technical subject‑matter expertise for the planning, design, integration, and deployment of audiovisual (AV) and related infrastructure systems across DCPS facilities.For this role, Journeyman refers to a mid‑level technical professional, typically with 6–10 years of relevant experience supporting infrastructure, AV, or enterprise technology systems. This position is technical in nature and supports program and project efforts by delivering hands‑on technical leadership, solution design input, standards alignment, and system validation. This role is not a help desk or purely project management position.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as a technical subject‑matter expert (SME) for AV and related infrastructure systems Translate technical and functional requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions Provide hands‑on technical support and leadership across large, complex system implementations Support design, integration, and deployment of technologies that interface with enterprise systems and networks, including classroom instructional AV, conference room and collaboration technologies, video conferencing systems, digital signage, and supporting control and network components Review and validate technical designs, RFIs, submittals, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BoMs) Identify and recommend best practices and technical standards to achieve high‑quality solutions Collaborate with Program Managers, vendors, integrators, Facilities, and OCTO technical teams to resolve technical issues and risks Participate in site assessments, field walks, installation reviews, system testing, and commissioning activities Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical issue resolution during deployments Support acceptance testing, verification, and operational readiness Contribute to technical documentation, as‑built validation, and knowledge transfer to DCPS staff Communicate technical concepts and recommendations to senior technical staff and leadership as needed Required Experience & SkillsExperience equivalent to a Journeyman Technical Specialist (approximately 6–10 years) Demonstrated expertise supporting AV, infrastructure, or enterprise technology systems Proven experience providing technical leadership on large‑scale or complex implementations Strong understanding of system integration concepts, including network, security, and control dependencies Ability to communicate technical and functional concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences Experience working with vendors and system integrators in a technical oversight role Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting AV or infrastructure systems in schools, government agencies, or large institutional environments Experience coordinating technical work alongside construction or facilities modernization projects Familiarity with enterprise collaboration platforms and AV control systems Experience developing or enforcing technical standards and best practices Relevant technical certifications (AV, networking, systems, or infrastructure) are a plus Minimum Education / Certification bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.Important Clarification This role is not Help Desk support and is not limited to physical installation work. The Technical Specialist provides technical design, integration, validation, and SME‑level support across complex systems and initiatives.Work Conditions Primary work location is onsite at DCPS facilities; limited telework may be permitted per District policy. Standard schedule is 40 hours per week.
