Retail Store Director
The RoleJohnnie-O is seeking a Store Director to coach and develop our retail fleet at Johnnie-O, with a clear focus on driving sales performance through strong teams and a best-in-class client experience. This role is centered on coaching, training, and elevating our store teams - ensuring they have the tools, confidence, and accountability to grow the business. This role will partner closely with the VP of Retail, Retail Operations, and Retail HR Business Partners to ensure consistency in execution while focusing their time on developing talent, strengthening clienteling behaviors, and unlocking sales growth across the fleet.Location: This is a hybrid role based in the Johnnie-O office in Raleigh, NC.Reports To: Haley Crockett, VP, RetailTeam Development & Performance LeadershipLead, coach, and develop Store Managers and their teams with a focus on sales performance, clienteling, and talent growth Build a strong bench of talent through intentional hiring, onboarding, and succession planning in partnership with VP of Retail & Retail HR Establish a “train the trainer” culture, ensuring Store Managers are effectively teaching and reinforcing SOPs and selling behaviors Provide ongoing, in-store coaching to improve conversion, UPT, AUR, and client retention Hold teams accountable to clear KPIs while fostering a motivating, team-first culture Sales Growth & Clienteling ExcellenceDrive a client-first selling culture, where relationship-building and repeat business are core to success Champion Endear (CRM) and clienteling initiatives - ensuring consistent outreach, follow-up, and customer engagement across all stores Identify opportunities to increase sales productivity at the associate level, focusing on selling skills, product knowledge, and styling confidence Leverage data and insights to diagnose performance gaps and implement targeted action plans SOP Training & ExecutionEnsure all stores are fully trained and compliant on SOPs, with a focus on consistency and scalability as the business grows Partner with Retail Ops to roll out new processes, tools, and systems, ensuring adoption through training and follow-up Reinforce standards around customer experience, merchandising execution, and store presentation Act as the bridge between HQ strategy and store-level execution- ensuring clarity, alignment, and accountability Brand Experience & CultureEnsure each store delivers a premium, consistent Johnnie-O experience rooted in authentic service and product storytelling Serve as a brand ambassador, reinforcing our positioning in how teams show up and sell Foster a culture where teams feel connected to the brand, product, and customer Business Strategy & Cross-Functional PartnershipGather field insights from store teams to inform assortment planning, marketing initiatives, etc Assist in supporting new store openings by ensuring teams are fully trained, staffed, and set up for success from a sales perspective Work closely with VP of Retail on performance management, employee relations, and talent developmentCompetenciesA people-first leader who genuinely enjoys developing others and building strong, motivated teamsA sales driver who knows how to grow the business through coaching and elevating individual performanceA hands-on coach who leads from the front and is consistently present in storesA clienteling champion who believes in relationship-driven retail and leads by exampleA clear and confident communicator who sets expectations and gives direct, constructive feedbackA collaborative partner who works seamlessly with Retail Ops, HR, and cross-functional teamsA high-accountability operator who follows through and holds others to a strong standardA brand builder who brings the Johnnie-O experience to life through people and cultureQualifications5–8+ years of experience in retail, with a strong emphasis on multi-unit leadership within premium or lifestyle brandsAbility to travel extensively (est. 50–70% of time), with heavy presence at our Raleigh, NC office and regular in-store visits across the fleet.Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing Store Managers and sales teamsStrong experience with clienteling and CRM tools (e.g., Endear), with a focus on driving customer retention and repeat businessAbility to analyze business performance and translate insights into clear, actionable strategies at the store levelExperience partnering cross-functionally with Retail Ops, HR, Merchandising, and Marketing teamsStrong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organizationHighly organized with strong follow-through and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentBenefits & CompensationFull-Time/Hourly position plus commission opportunities, paid time off, and paid holidays Health/Dental/Vision/FSA/Life/Short-Term Disability Insurance benefits Employee discounts Aside from a fun and unique working environment, Johnnie-O offers a challenging career coupled with a competitive compensation and benefits package.
