Survey Party Chief
We are expanding our surveying team and are seeking a skilled Survey Party Chief to support our growing workload throughout New Jersey, New York, and the broader tri-state region. Our firm provides comprehensive land development and surveying services, and this role is a key part of strengthening our field operations as we continue to scale.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who already knows how to lead a survey crew, enjoys hands-on fieldwork, and wants a long-term home with opportunities for career advancement and licensure.About the RoleWe are currently experiencing an increase in project volume and are building a more regionalized field team to better serve our clients. As a Survey Party Chief, you will independently run survey operations in the field, support a wide range of land development and construction projects, and work with modern Trimble equipment.This position is primarily field-based and remote, with limited need to report to the office. We provide a company credit card for gas, tolls, lodging, and related expenses.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage field survey operations with minimal oversightPerform boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, and construction stakeoutOperate Trimble S5 robotic total stations, GPS/RTK systems, and data collectorsInterpret plans, perform field calculations, and solve problems on-siteProduce accurate field notes, sketches, and digital recordsCoordinate directly with office staff and Project Managers regarding project requirementsMaintain and care for all assigned survey equipmentUphold safety procedures and represent the company professionally on all job sitesTravel & TerritoryPrimary work in New Jersey and New YorkOccasional travel within the broader tri-state regionRare overnight travel to locations such as Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, or Virginia — scheduled in advance with consideration for personal and family needsVariety of project durations, ranging from half-day visits to multi-day assignmentsCandidates located in Central NJ (Burlington, Ocean, Monmouth Counties) are especially encouraged, as this helps us better regionalize our field coverage.What We're Looking ForRequiredPrior experience as a Survey Party Chief or Crew ChiefStrong capability with construction stakeout, boundary, and topo surveysExperience with GPS/RTK and robotic total station workflowsAbility to work independently, manage time effectively, and communicate clearlyHigh level of responsibility and professionalism — especially when working remotelyValid driver's license and comfort with multi-location travelPreferredExperience with Trimble S5 instrumentsFamiliarity with land development projectsInterest in advancing toward professional licensureAbility to mentor and support junior team membersWhat We OfferCompetitive compensationCompany credit card for field expenses (gas, tolls, lodging, etc.)Health, dental, and vision benefits401(k) with company contributionPaid time off and paid holidaysModern equipment and efficient workflowsOpportunities for long-term growth and advancementA supportive team culture that values initiative, reliability, and continuous improvement
