DescriptionSUMMARY: The Business Unit Controller supports the Corporate Controller in overseeing accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, actively leading the monthly closing process, and supporting budgeting and forecasting processes. This role works closely with the Corporate Controller to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary duties.Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.Supervise daily accounting operations, including cash management, accounts payable, cash applications, and general ledger.Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets.Assist with external audits and coordinate with auditors for successful completion.Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis.Lead and mentor accounting staff; provide training and development opportunities.Recommend and implement improvements to accounting systems and procedures.Stay updated with financial regulations and best practices.Responsible for multiple locations within the region; some travel required. Perform other related duties as necessary or assignedQUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required. An individual must meet the minimum requirements as listed in each Qualifications subsection.EducationBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.ExperienceFive to Seven plus years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including experience in a controller or senior financial analyst role.Experience managing staff in day-to-day activities and driving a winning, positive culture. RequirementsSKILLS & ABILITIES:Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and internal controls.Listen actively; respond well to questions; communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and maintain confidentiality.Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skillsCombination of strong accounting knowledge with excellent financial/analytical skills.Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence business decisions.Cost accounting skills/experience preferred.Ability to prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines.Experience in Prophet 21 (Epicor) software is a plus.Physical DemandsThe work is sedentary, requiring extended period of sitting or standing to perform the work. There may be some movement from area-to-area to transport items weighing no more than 15 pounds. Physical tasks include walking, grasping, carrying, lifting, assembling, listening, writing, speaking and traveling.Work EnvironmentWhile performing the primary duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to a manufacturing and general office environment.
