This role contributes directly to the production of high-quality printed and packaged materials by ensuring jobs are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with customer and safety requirements.On a typical day, the Bindery Assistant may rotate between drilling, collating, packing, shrink wrapping, and inspecting printed materials, while supporting multiple pieces of finishing equipment. This position plays a key role in maintaining workflow throughout the bindery department and ensuring finished products meet quality standards.How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock Assist bindery operators with finishing equipment, including folders, stitcher trimmers, and cutters, to support efficient production flow. Drill holes in paper sheets using manual and automated equipment. Remove, stack, and pack printed materials at various stages of completion onto pallets as they accumulate on finishing equipment. Inspect stitched, collated, bound, and unbound products to ensure compliance with customer quality requirements. Hand collate printed materials, insert sheets, apply adhesive tape or hot glue, and apply labels according to job tickets. Assemble sample products by hand using adhesive tape or hot glue. Set up and operate shrink-wrapping equipment; pack wrapped products into boxes and apply tape and labels. Weigh printed materials using a counting scale to verify quantities. Operate hand-held air hammers and paper banding machines as required. Complete bindery sections of job tickets and ensure accurate label information. Assist in the gluing department and other finishing areas as business needs require. Perform all duties in compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety policies. Support continuous improvement by completing other assigned tasks as needed.Required QualificationsWHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED High school diploma or G.E.D. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Basic arithmetic skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Basic personal computer skills. Ability to maintain good attendance and reliability.Experience No prior experience or formal training required; on-the-job training provided.Skills and Attributes Strong attention to detail and quality. Ability to follow instructions and work from job tickets. Willingness to work in a fast-paced production environment.
