This role is ideal for someone with strong memory care instincts who can provide calm structure, safety supervision, personal care, and companionship while maintaining the client's dignity and comfort.The right caregiver will be steady, patient, and confident supporting dementia/Alzheimer's-related needs such as confusion, nighttime restlessness, anxiety, and sundowning. The client responds positively to music, so candidates who can incorporate music appropriately to promote calm and connection are strongly preferred.Position SummaryAs an overnight caregiver (7p–7a), you will help the client remain safe, comfortable, and supported through the night by providing attentive supervision, personal care support as needed, and dementia-friendly communication. You must remain alert throughout the shift, maintain professional boundaries, and communicate clearly with the office and family when updates are needed.This is a non-medical role. Caregivers provide support services, reminders, observation, and documentation based on the care plan.Key Outcomes for This RoleA successful caregiver in this position will:Maintain a calm and secure environment overnightPrevent falls and reduce nighttime agitation through routine and reassuranceProvide respectful personal care support while protecting dignityUse dementia-friendly communication and redirection techniquesCommunicate changes promptly and document clearlyDemonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and professionalismPrimary Responsibilities (Detailed)1) Overnight Safety SupervisionRemain alert and attentive throughout the shiftMonitor for fall risks, wandering risk, or unsafe behaviorsMaintain a safe environment (clear walkways, adequate lighting if needed, appropriate bed/chair safety per care plan)Provide reassurance during nighttime wake-ups and confusionRespond appropriately to client needs, calls, or restlessness2) Dementia/Alzheimer's SupportUse calm, respectful communication and short, clear cuesProvide gentle redirection when confusion, anxiety, or repetitive behaviors occurSupport bedtime and overnight routines to reduce distressAssist with nighttime transitions (bathroom, hydration, repositioning) while minimizing disruptionRecognize and respond to sundowning symptoms (agitation, fear, restlessness) using de-escalation strategies3) Personal Care (As Needed Overnight)Assist with toileting and incontinence care per care planSupport hygiene routines (oral care, face/hands, grooming)Assist with dressing/undressing and comfort clothing changesSupport safe transfers and mobility (bed to chair, chair to bathroom)Provide repositioning support to promote comfort and skin protection (as applicable)Always protect the client's privacy, dignity, and independence4) Companionship and Emotional SupportProvide a steady, supportive presenceEngage in calming conversation and reassurance when the client is awakeEncourage comfort, confidence, and emotional safetyReduce isolation and anxiety through patient presence and respectful support5) Music-Supported Care (Client Preference)Use music as a calming tool when appropriate (soft, familiar, instrumental or preferred genre)Support relaxation at bedtime or during anxious momentsEngage the client with simple music-based interaction (listening, gentle singing, familiar songs) if welcomedMaintain appropriate volume and timing to support sleep and comfort6) Meal/Snack and Hydration SupportPrepare light snacks as appropriate (per dietary guidance/care plan)Encourage hydration and offer fluids at appropriate timesFollow safe food handling and cleanliness standardsMonitor for appetite changes or swallowing concerns and report appropriately7) Light Housekeeping Related to CareKeep the client's immediate area tidy and safe (remove clutter, wipe surfaces as needed)Laundry basics related to client care (as assigned)Clean up after snacks/mealsMaintain a safe, calm, organized environment overnight8) Observation, Documentation, and CommunicationDocument relevant overnight updates per company process/care planObserve and report changes in behavior, confusion level, sleep patterns, appetite, mobility, mood, or safety risksCommunicate concerns promptly to the office/family per protocolMaintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times9) Transportation (Only If Assigned/Approved)Provide transportation to approved errands/appointments if included in care planAssist with safe entry/exit from the vehicle as neededMaintain valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable vehicleRequired QualificationsProven caregiving experience (home care, assisted living, memory care, or similar)Ability to provide personal care confidently and respectfullyExcellent attendance and punctuality (overnight coverage is essential)Calm demeanor, patience, and strong judgmentProfessional appearance and excellent hygiene (must be well-groomed every shift)Reliable transportationAbility to follow a care plan and communicate clearlyMust complete onboarding requirementsStrongly PreferredDementia/Alzheimer's experience (strongly desired)Experience with sundowning, nighttime agitation, anxiety reduction, and de-escalationMusical background (instrument, singing, choir/band, or similar)Experience supporting blood sugar awareness per care plan (if applicable)Onboarding Documentation RequiredApplicants must be able to provide:Copy of high school diploma (or equivalent)Valid driver's licenseCopy of birth certificateSocial Security cardProof of auto insurance (if transporting clients)Applicants must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
