Front of House Manager

Position Title: Front-of-House (FOH) ManagerReports to: Managing Director / Artistic DirectorLocation: Prospect Theater Project, Modesto, CAPosition Type: Part-TimePOSITION OVERVIEWThe Front-of-House (FOH) Manager ensures that patrons of Prospect Theater Project have a safe, welcoming, and positive experience before, during, and after performances. This role oversees the lobby, concessions, ticketing, volunteers, and audience services. The FOH Manager is the point of contact for patrons on performance nights and is responsible for creating a hospitable environment that reflects the theater’s mission and values.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPatron ExperienceGreet and assist patrons with warmth and professionalism.Respond to audience needs, including accessibility accommodations.Handle patron questions, concerns, and feedback during performances.Operations & OversightSupervise front-of-house operations during performances (box office, concessions, lobby, volunteers).Open and close the theater building during assigned shifts.Ensure compliance with safety, fire code, and emergency protocols.Manage cash handling for concessions and box office, reconcile sales at end of shift.Operate and oversee the theater’s ticketing systems (VBO – Virtual Box Office, Square), including will-call, ticket exchanges, and day-of-show sales.Manage bar and concessions inventory and sales.Maintaining cleanliness of bathrooms, bar, lobby, Artist Lab and Studio Theater.Maintain RBS (Responsible Beverage Service) Certification. Prospect Theater will provide training/assistance.Volunteer CoordinationTrain and support volunteers.Assign volunteer duties (greeting, ticket sales, concessions/bar assistance, etc).Create a positive, supportive environment for volunteers.Communication & TeamworkServe as liaison between FOH and stage management/production teams during performances.Provide performance reports regarding audience attendance, incidents, and concessions sales.Returning general patron emails and phone calls. Forwarding emails to relevant personnel.Additional administrative tasks and support as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSStrong interpersonal and customer service skills.Ability to manage and train volunteers and create a welcoming, professional environment.Organized, reliable, and comfortable handling cash and sales systems.Must have strong computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suites preferred.Experience using or willingness to learn ticketing software (VBO or similar).Ability to remain calm and resourceful under pressure.Prior theater, event management, or hospitality experience is preferred but not required.Must be 21 years of age or older.SCHEDULE & COMPENSATIONSchedule: Primarily evenings and weekends during production runs (with occasional rehearsals or special events). Must be available weekend evenings and Sunday afternoons for performances. Cleanings intermittently and staff meetings weekly during weekdays.Commitment: Part-time, approximately 10-30 hours per week (varies by production schedule, generally 20-30 hours during production, 5-10 non-production).Compensation: Starting pay, $16.90 per hour.HOW TO APPLY:Please send a brief letter of interest and resume to info@prospecttheaterproject.org.
