Staff Environmental Scientist - Permitting & Compliance (Houston)

Description Burns & McDonnell's South Central region is seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist to join our Houston, TX, office. The Staff Environmental Scientist will work within our region’s Environmental & Regulatory Compliance (ERC) department and collaborate broadly in support of our Environmental Services practice.The Staff Environmental Scientist will support delivery of environmental assessments, compliance management plans, and permitting tasks for various industries including transmission and distribution, power generation, chemical manufacturing, aerospace manufacturing, utilities, and transportation. This position supports the growth of the Environmental Services practice based upon Burns & McDonnell's core values of safety, client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, and overall outstanding service.DutiesThe Staff Environmental Scientist would be expected to perform project and task management duties on environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance assurance projects, such as:Coordinate project teams to deliver a variety of tasks, including completion of site visits, field surveys, agency consultations, permit applications, compliance plans, and reporting.Contribute to the preparation of deliverables such as Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and site inspection reports.Direct and participate in field-related activities, including logging soils, air monitoring during investigation and remediation activities, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, collection of soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis, and collection of soil for physical testing.Assist in assessing soil and groundwater data, developing soil and groundwater sampling plans, data compilation for soil, air and groundwater analytical results.Track and maintain permitting schedules, deadlines, and deliverables for on-time submissions and approvals.Assist Project Managers with tracking project scope, schedule, and budget, developing project execution plans, preparing change orders, and reviewing invoices.Participate in regular project status meetings with clients and internal stakeholders, document action items and follow-ups.Assist with the development of internal and external progress reports.Subcontractor contracting, scheduling, and management of field activities.Participate in business development activities including client meetings and proposal preparation.Travel may be required as necessary and required by project or client commitments.Adhere to Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, trainings, and policies, as well as promote and manage the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.All other duties as assigned.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related natural science degree from an accredited program required, and at least 4 years of related professional experience (5 years preferred).Consulting experience is highly preferred.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent written & verbal communication skills.Working knowledge of environmental site assessment methods.Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory regimes.Working knowledge of environmental compliance requirements and best practices.The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate with a team.The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage in a dynamic team environment, work under pressure to meet deadlines, and work effectively and professionally with various audiences (i.e., regulators, public officials, clients, etc.).This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.EEO/Disabled/VeteransJob EnvironmentalPrimary Location US-TX-HoustonSchedule: Full-timeTravel: Yes, 25 % of the TimeReq ID: 262068Job Hire Type Experienced #ENS
