GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORKUnder the direction and supervision of the Director I - Transportation Services and the Assistant Director of Transportation Services, the School Bus Driver performs intermediate semi-skilled support work in the transportation of pupils to and from school and special events; does related work as required.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSOperates a school bus on an assigned route and schedulePicks up and transports children to school dailyTransports individuals or groups for recreational and social activitiesChecks equipment and reports defectsWashes busesSweeps out interior of buses and cleans windowsReports accidentsMay operate special vehicles for transportation of special students KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESGeneral knowledge of the issues involved in operating a school busGeneral knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streetsSkill in the safe operation of a school busAbility to detect malfunctioning equipmentAbility to assist children using patience and understandingAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, public, associates and studentsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
