Physical, punctual, reliable, and predictable regular attendance is an essential job function.Job SummaryThe District Literacy Coach works in collaboration with the District Literacy Team and School Literacy Coaches to improve English Language Arts (ELA) instruction across the district. This role focuses on the implementation of ELA Utah Core Standards through research-based practices aligned with the Science of Reading. The coach provides sustained job-embedded support to school-based coaches through professional learning and coaching to build instructional capacity and improve student outcomes in K-5 literacy.Essential FunctionsInstructional Leadership & Coaching:Design and deliver professional learning aligned with district initiatives and applying adult learning theory to build educator capacity in Science of Reading practices.Spend the majority of the workday in schools coaching School Literacy Coaches to strengthen K-5 literacy instruction.Utilize the district coaching cycle to provide support through pre-planning, data collection, shared interactions, and reflective conversations.Support School Literacy Coaches in aligning instruction to curriculum and implementing research-based literacy practices through coaching cycle interactions (e.g. in-class modeling, co-teaching, and shadow teaching).Facilitate implementation of LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) practices.Data Analysis & Assessment:Analyze district- and school-level data to inform coaching priorities and instructional decisions.Provide timely, data-driven feedback to School Literacy Coaches to strengthen teaching practices and improve student outcomes.Professionalism & Collaboration:Build and maintain positive, confidential working relationships with school and district staff.Partner with district and school leaders to align work with Continuous Improvement Plans (CIP) and the District Strategic Plan.Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality of district and school information.Model professional and ethical standards and adhere to all laws and district policies.Engaging in ongoing personal professional learning to maintain competence in core content and district-adopted tools.Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality of district, school, and student information.Non-Essential FunctionsOther duties as assigned.Required Knowledge And SkillsLiteracy Expertise: Mastery of Science of Reading research, lesson design, and evidence-based instructional strategies.Instructional Technology: Strong computer and educational technological skills, including the use of district-approved tools for documentation (e.g., ConnectHub).Assessment Literacy: Knowledge of Granite's proficiency-based learning systems and ability to analyze and interpret data to guide instruction.Communication & Leadership: Excellent facilitation, collaboration, problem-solving, and strong oral and written communication skills.Independence: Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.Required Education, Training, And QualificationsRequires one of the following:A current Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) in a relevant license area: Elementary, Early Childhood Education, or Special Education (K-12).A current equivalent professional educator license from another state or country; individuals hired under this provision must obtain a Utah Professional Educator License by the end of their first school year of employment.Requires completion of LETRS training or equivalent.Requires a professional Instructional Coaching endorsement or willingness to obtain within 2 years of hire.A master's degree or higher in education or related field is preferred.Required Prior ExperienceRequires a minimum of three (3) years of successful elementary teaching experience; five (5) or more years of such experience is preferred.Previous experience as a School Literacy Coach is preferred.Assigned Decision MakingCoaching Strategy: Determine coaching interactions and professional learning based on school and district data.Professional Learning: Design and adapt professional development aligned with District ELA priorities.Non-Supervisory InteractionRegular collaboration with the District Literacy Team, district specialists, school-based coaches, teachers, administrators, and Curriculum & Instruction leadership.Supervisory ResponsibilityNot applicable; provides coaching to School Literacy Coaches; does not have formal authority for hiring or performance evaluations.Working EnvironmentWork takes place in a typical office or school environment.Daily travel between the district office and multiple school locations is required.Physical RequirementsCommunication: Ability to talk and hear; must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.Mobility: Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.Vision: Close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to focus.Lifting: Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
