Job DescriptionTop Notch is looking for a Paint Prepper 1 to join our team. The primary role of a Paint Prepper 1 is to support Apprentice and Journeyman painters by cleaning and prepping the site for paint application. This position requires a self-motivated individual who wants to maintain a vibrant painting/staining branch and grow with the company. The job does entail working outside, requires lifting 60 lbs., climbing ladders/heights, driving 1.5 hours one way to job sites, and dedication to completing the work and carrying through for both our clients and our employees. As an employee-owned company, we are looking for employees (not subcontractors) who want to stay long-term and achieve higher-responsibility roles.It's important to us that we recruit dedicated individuals into all roles, so the company remains strong over time.DutiesSupports Apprentice and Journeyman PaintersCompletes delegated tasks without constantly needing to talk to the crew lead or someone else to follow through or finish work.Actively looks for things to do to help without being asked.Attempts to anticipate what might be needed nextIs observant of what is being done Knows how to clean site for paint applicationTake photos of rooms to return everything to its original location/conditionCan clean brushes, rollers, tools, chink guns, etc. Then, cleans sinks and site up after that so customer does not have to. Knows the difference between oil and water based materials for cleaning.Knows how to prep site for paint applicationSanding – can sand drywall, deck surfaces, railings, etc. Can use a pole sander, orbital sander and belt sander and which grit paperCleaning – vacuuming walls & floors, using a brush to remove debris from corners and window sills, Caulking @ 30 Lineal feet/hour- This is for pre-painting caulking of cracks and joints such as the gap between a base board and wallMasking/Taping @ 120 sq ft/hr – The employee should understand how to correctly tape and mask off windows and trim. Can identify which tape to use for correct purpose.Sheeting @ 120 sq ft/hr – The employee should know how to hang plastic sheeting to separate rooms for dust control and for protection of surfaces. This includes laying proper floor protection like ram board, drop cloths, synthetic floor padding.Brush Logs @ 60 sq ft/hr – The employee know the correct brush to use and can cut in around chink lines with no drips and spills.Has Knowledge of Basic Painting Techniques and Needs of a JobsiteSet up a ladder/scaffold safely and how to properly tie off safety lines.Check surroundings to ensure the client will be happy with organization and cleanliness of site.Removes trash from site. Never leaves any food or drink trash onsite as many communities will fine if that type of trash is onsite at all.Ensure safety for those around the site by correctly marking work zone. Pay attention to safety hazards and correct when necessary.
