Senior Backend Web Developer — Python / Django

About the Role We are seeking a *Senior Backend Developer* with deep expertise in *Python and Django* to design, build, and scale the systems that power our core applications. This is not a front-end or generalist web development role — we need someone who lives on the server side: someone who thinks in data models, API contracts, system architecture, and performance at scale. You'll be responsible for architecting new backend services, building internal tools and software from the ground up, and ensuring our infrastructure is secure, efficient, and built to grow. What You'll Do * Design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems and RESTful/GraphQL APIs using *Python and Django* * Architect scalable data models and database schemas (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) * Build new internal applications, tools, and software systems from concept through deployment * Own the full backend lifecycle: system design, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring * Optimize application performance, query efficiency, and system reliability at scale * Implement secure authentication, authorization, and data-handling practices * Integrate third-party services and APIs into core systems * Write clean, well-documented, testable code and participate in code reviews * Collaborate with product and technical leadership to translate business needs into technical architecture * Diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues, from database bottlenecks to server infrastructure What You Bring * *5+ years of professional backend development experience*, with strong, demonstrable expertise in *Python* and the *Django framework* * Deep understanding of relational databases, ORM design, and query optimization * Strong grasp of API design principles (REST and/or GraphQL) and backend security best practices * Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker) a strong plus * Comfort working independently to architect solutions, not just execute tickets * Experience building software and systems from scratch, not only maintaining existing codebases * Strong understanding of version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and testing frameworks * Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think in systems, not just screens * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience *Nice to Have:* * Experience with task queues (Celery), caching layers (Redis), or message brokers * Background in high-growth or startup environments where you built infrastructure without a roadmap already laid out * Familiarity with microservices architecture Why This Role Is Different This isn't a role for someone who wants to bounce between front-end polish and backend patches.
