Cashier

The Department of Dining Services at the University of Connecticut has an immediate opening for a full time; non-state Cashier at the Avery Point campus. The ideal candidates should have experience in cash handling and customer service. **$500 bonus for all new hires that complete their working test period (120 working days). ** Responsibilities and Duties The essential duties and responsibilities include the following: computes or re-computes bill, itemized lists and tickets showing amount due. Makes change, cashes checks and issues receipts or tickets to customers. Records amounts received and prepares reports of transactions. Reads and records totals shown on cash register tape and verifies against cash on hand. Quotes price and describes features of items for which money is received. Gives cash refunds or issues credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise. Operates cash register by passing prices coded items across electronic scanner to record price, compile printed list and display cost of customer purchase, tax and rebates on monitor screen. Restocks cooler as necessary. Qualifications and Skills Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have previous cash handling experience. Must be able to make change, count cash and operate cash register. Ability to effectively communicate with customers and fellow employees. Must be accurate. Computer skills are required. The starting union rate is $20.31 per hour. The schedules usually include nights and weekends
