PROJECT ENGINEER/PROJECT COORDINATOR

Orion Engineers & Constructors is currently seeking a Project Engineer/Coordinator to join our client's team at a facility in Mobile, Alabama. This position offers competitive compensation. Summary
A Project Engineer/Coordinator role involves supporting the engineering and construction team through various administrative and coordination tasks, with a focus on representing the client's interests throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities and Functions
Lead projects to ensure safety, cost control, quality, and effective team dynamics.
Develop project scope and design specifications.
Prepare budget estimates and cost justifications.
Monitor and report on project progress, conducting status review meetings.
Procure necessary parts and equipment.
Provide ongoing technical support to coordinate multi-departmental tasks.
Coordinate plant turnarounds and participate in commissioning and start-up activities.
Oversee project close-out and documentation turnover.
Manage contractor selection and construction activities.
Schedule and coordinate non-routine maintenance and emergency shutdowns.
Engage in miscellaneous project and maintenance engineering tasks.
Conduct cost analysis and risk assessments, reporting to management.
Develop and track project KPIs and master schedules.
Liaise between the company, customers, and vendors.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders.
Develop design standards, tools, procedures, and training materials.
Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Experience with AutoCAD-based drafting programs is recommended.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements, including obtaining a TWIC card if necessary.
Ability to pass background checks and drug tests, including random testing.
Knowledge in estimating, budgeting, job cost tracking, and project closeout.
Detail-oriented with excellent accuracy.
Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
Familiarity with project management methodologies and best practices.
Ability to work on-site with occasional remote work opportunities.
Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Education and Experience
BS degree in Chemical or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited university is preferred; Equivalent industry experience may be acceptable if deemed appropriate by the client.
PE License Certification preferred but not required.
Minimum of 5+ years of project engineering or general plant/industrial experience is required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Work assignment inside an operating plant which requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboard.
Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder or up and down stairs.
Must be able to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites or office locations.
Must be able to attend job walks wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an operating facility in a hot climate.
Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
