Lead Electrical Engineer

We are a commercial-stage NeuroTech startup backed by a billion-dollar family office, democratizing access to the brain’s blood flow data. Our clinical validated suite of software and hardware products allows for a standardized collection of transcranial Doppler measurements, which was previously only possible with the use of highly specialized sonographers. We are hiring our Director of Electrical Engineering. We have partnered with our CEO and CTO to hire our Lead Electrical Engineer. This position will work closely with the technical team to enhance utilization and expand the use indications, while also providing sustaining support. This position will be responsible for layout and simulation activities, RF and Analog design, test fixture setup, and managing vendors. This is a hybrid position, in the office near UCLA, 3 days per week every other week.Responsibilities Own the hardware roadmap in partnership with the CTO: define technical direction, make build-vs-buy calls, and sequence milestones that align with business goals.Design and ship boards: schematic capture, stack-up definition, layout, simulation, bring-up, and verification for analog/RF, power, and mixed-signal systems.Sustain and improve the current line: execute EOL component substitutions, cost and yield improvements, and DFx (DFM/DFT/DFR) updates; drive ECOs cleanly through release.Lead design transfer: prepare complete manufacturing packages (BOMs, drawings, Gerbers, test procedures), resolve build issues with EMS/CM partners, and close PPAP/FAI as needed.Build manufacturing & service tooling: design fixtures, test harnesses, and simple automation to improve throughput, repeatability, and field diagnostics.Debug fast and well: triage service and user issues, perform root-cause analysis across hardware/firmware/system boundaries, and land corrective actions that stick.Design within a QMS: contribute requirements, risk analyses, verification plans, test reports, and traceability; maintain a tidy Design History File.Own compliance paths: plan and execute EMC/safety pre-compliance, coordinate with test labs, and bake compliance into design constraints early.Collaborate and mentor: set hardware best practices, review peer designs, and help grow a small, high-leverage team over time.Qualifications & Competencies 5+ years of hardware product development with shipped boards in production.BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering (MS/PhD preferred).Analog and RF experience, including simulation and layout (e.g., LNAs/AFEs, filters, impedance control, shielding/grounding, EMC-aware design).Proficiency with EDA & simulation tools, ideally Altium Designer plus SPICE/ADS (or equivalent).Demonstrated design transfer experience and DFM for volume builds; comfortable working with EMS/CMs.Experience working within a QMS (creating/using design controls, verification/validation, ECOs, documentation discipline).Strong bench skills: scopes, VNAs/SAs, SMUs, logic analyzers; methodical bring-up and debug.Clear written and verbal communication; ability to drive decisions across disciplines.
