Location : JSU Main Campus, MSJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 211128College/Division: Counseling CenterOpening Date: 03/23/2026DescriptionThe Latasha Norman Center - Counseling Services at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Administrative Assistant.Examples of DutiesAnswers telephone, greets visitors, and directs calls/individuals to appropriate person; makes photocopies as requested; and opens and routes mail.Supervises and coordinates schedules/appointments of professional staff and graduate assistants, coordinates meetings, and makes travel arrangements.Initiates, at the direction of the Director, purchasing supplies and materials for the Center and maintains inventory control of equipment and other materials which have been purchased.Organizing and conducting outreach presentations, events, and educating the campus community about mental health.Assisting with cultivating relationships with community resources.Monitors and maintains budget transactions for departmental account to include the purchasing and upkeep of office supplies and posting and balancing account with monthly detail budget reports.Functions as office courier to perform activities such as picking up mail, delivering documents to offices on campus, etc.Supervisory responsibilities include training, planning, assigning, and student worker oversight.Provide support and guidance to students, including assisting students with Telehealth referrals and making appointments.Represent the counseling center on various committees and initiatives and cultivate relationships with campus partners.Performs other duties as assigned.Typical QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Office Administration, Education, or related field, Master's Preferred.Manages office to include coordinating and arranging counseling appointments; conducting outreach presentations, assisting with community efforts and building relationships with community and external partners, supervising and coordinating clerical workers; and monitoring and maintaining budget transactions for departmental accounts and purchasing under supervision of the Director.1-3 years of experience in outreach, community engagement, or a related field, with a preference for experience in mental health.Training in office management, clerical duties or college campus supports.We offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees, including health care, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation plans, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, long-term disability, holidays, vacation, and sick leave.Part-time employees who work 20 hours or more per week are eligible for the complete benefits package.
