Residential Specialist
A nonprofit organization is seeking a dedicated Residential Specialist to work in a shelter program located in Brooklyn, NY. The Residential Specialist plays a critical frontline role in maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for shelter residents. This position is responsible for monitoring the facility, ensuring adherence to house rules and program policies, and providing daily support and crisis intervention to residents. Compensation : $20 - $23 Job ID : 44811 Job Function: Conduct regular scheduled rounds to ensure resident safety and wellbeing Monitor surveillance systems and ensure facility security Make hourly observation rounds and accurately document observations in the communication log Maintain detailed and timely activity logs, shift notes, and incident reports Communicate incidents and concerns promptly to supervisory staff Provide frontline crisis intervention and de-escalation support Ensure residents follow house rules and program policies Serve as a role model and actively encourage resident engagement in services and activities Complete admissions and intake paperwork Job Requirements: Associate Degree in Human Services or High School Diploma/GED with 3+ years of social service experience FDNY F-02 Fire Guard Certification and Security License (required; may be obtained within 6 months of hire) Demonstrated experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and other marginalized communities, including people with substance use histories (harm reduction), LGBTQ+ individuals, those affected by HIV/AIDS, older adults, and individuals with mental health or developmental disabilities Disclosure: The hourly rates and/or salaries listed may or may not reflect total compensation packages including bonus and fringe benefits, etc., nor are the advertisement(s) posted a guarantee of a certain compensation package for a position or bona fide offer of employment.
