Assistant Controller - Real Estate

Summary:The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations, including general ledger management, financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial data, supporting strategic decision-making, and maintaining compliance with GAAP. The ideal candidate will bring strong real estate industry experience and a deep understanding of complex accounting transactions.Key Responsibilities:Oversee general ledger activities, including maintenance of accounts, fixed assets, and reconciliationsManage the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries and financial statementsPrepare and review closing statement journal entries and loan closing journal entriesEnsure accurate and timely financial reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basisLead audit preparation efforts, including development of schedules and coordination with external auditorsPerform detailed financial analysis, including variance analysis and budgeting supportMaintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policiesOversee job cost accounting and ensure accurate project cost tracking and reportingCollaborate with lenders and support corporate banking activities, including financing and cash managementAssist with property tax appeals and provide supporting financial documentationSupport cost segregation studies and related accounting treatmentSupervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and professional developmentQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus in real estateProven experience with cost segregation, property tax appeals, job costing, and corporate bankingHands-on experience preparing closing statement and loan closing journal entriesStrong background in audit preparation and working with external auditorsAdvanced knowledge of GAAP and financial reportingProficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level preferred)Experience with ERP systems such as JD Edwards (E1) preferredStrong analytical, organizational, and leadership skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsEqual Opportunity Employer / Disabled / Protected VeteransThe Know Your Rights poster is available here:https://www.eeoc.gov/sites/default/files/2023-06/22-088_EEOC_KnowYourRights6.12.pdfThe pay transparency policy is available here:https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ofccp/pdf/pay-transp_%20English_formattedESQA508c.pdfFor temporary assignments lasting 13 weeks or longer, AppleOne is pleased to offer major medical, dental, vision, 401k and any statutory sick pay where required.We are committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities.
